Pokemon games have always been about catching them all, whether that meant that players got out of their way to actually get every single Pokemon available in each game or that they were fine with seeing most of them and actually catching those they preferred. Of course, there are also many collectors that are happy with catching every available critter, but getting all Shiny Pokemon instead is much more satisfying - and extremely difficult to achieve. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl offer a few great tools for Shiny hunters so that everyone can get their hands on valuable critters.

These methods include the Diglett Rush in the Grand Underground, which effectively doubles the chance of finding a Shiny Pokemon in the caves, and the Poke Radar, a Poketch app available in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's post-game. Another common method, which is more straightforward but also more time-consuming, is resetting the game until players encounter the desired Shiny, a common practice for Legendary Pokemon.

A Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl player shared a brief video on Reddit showing their luckiest, unluckiest moment in the games. The player started the fight against Shadow Giratina, and the Legendary Pokemon turned out to be a Shiny, which is the least noticeable in the entire game due to Shadow Giratina being fully black in both versions. Furthermore, Shadow Giratina cannot be caught, it can only be defeated to obtain the Griseus Orb, which is then used to fight the actual Giratina battle so that players can catch it.

This isn't the only case where uncatchable Shiny Pokemon appear, and players can encounter them at the very start, prior to obtaining any Poke Ball, and also in the brief tutorial about how to catch wild Pokemon at the beginning of the game. To add insult to injury, the game's code works in a way that separates the encounter with Shadow Giratina and Giratina itself, meaning that players will have to reset their games hundreds or even thousands of times before getting a Shiny Giratina. Thus, Shiny Shadow Giratina is the most worthless Shiny in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

The method used to get Shiny Legendary Pokemon is the same Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players use to get Shiny starters, albeit in that case it might be even more of a tall order due to all the animations players have to go through before their first battle. Even then, players can find a Shiny Starly as their very first encounter, which further proves how frustrating uncatchable Shinies can be.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available now on Nintendo Switch.
