After the introduction of the first five Evolution Stones in Pokemon Red & Blue, only one additional type was added to the series across the next two generations of Pokemon games. This all changed with the gen 4 games, however, with three brand new types of Evolution Stone all making their debuts. Fifteen years on, and all three stones return once more in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.

Like one or two of the other types of Evolution Stones, Shiny Stones were initially used to breathe new life into older evolutionary lines, with Togepi and Budew each getting a third stage evolution upon their introduction. Unlike the Pokemon they evolve though, Shiny Stones can be pretty hard to come by in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl; as those looking to find one will soon learn.

The first chance that Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl players will have to get their hands on a Shiny Stone will arrive on the B3 floor of the Iron Island, which they'll be able to visit shortly after arriving in Canalave City. After defeating the Elite Four and gaining access to the Battle Zone, they'll be able to pick up another one on Route 228 by following the narrow bike bridges near the double battle.

While on the subject of Pickup, it's arguably one of the most underrated abilities in the entire Pokemon franchise. Granted, it's not all that useful in battle, but it can provide players with some incredibly useful items, including Shiny Stones. The chances of finding one start at just 4%, but increase with the Pokemon's level. By the time the user hits level 91, the chances of a Pickup item being a Shiny Stone are a mighty 10%, making this a great way to farm them.

  • Togetic -> Togekiss
  • Roselia -> Roserade

Due to the absence of Minccino and Floette, only two of the Pokemon in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl can be evolved using a Shiny Stone. The first of these is Togetic, which players will need to evolve from Togepi by leveling it up with a high Friendship stat. Players can find Togepi on Route 230 with the Poke Radar or down in the Grand Underground. The only other Pokemon that evolves with a Shiny Stone is Roselia, which players can also find in the Grand Underground, as well as in the Trophy Garden and on Routes 212, 221, 224, 225, and 229.
