Of the nine different Evolution Stones obtainable in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Dawn Stones are perhaps the most unique. First introduced in the gen 4 games, whether or not they work depends not only on the type of Pokemon they're being used on, but also its gender too. This in turn allows for some interesting branched evolutions and also provides additional significance to a Pokemon's gender beyond the games' breeding mechanics.

Though it isn't possible to dig for Dawn Stones in the Grand Underground as it is with most of the other Evolution Stones in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, players still have a few options when it comes to tracking one down. Sadly, however, those hoping to get their hands on one early are a little out of luck, as the first opportunity that players will get to find one comes about halfway through the main story.

Where to Find a Dawn Stone in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Players will first be able to get their hands on a Dawn Stone in Mt. Coronet shortly after defeating Cyrus at Team Galactic's headquarters. Once they've beaten Cynthia and gained access to the Battle Zone, they'll be able to find another one near a trainer on the north side of Route 225. It's up on a high ledge, so reaching it will require the use of the Rock Climb HM.

Those looking for a more passive method of obtaining Dawn Stones should instead track down a Pokemon with the Pickup ability. It can be found on a number of Pokemon including Aipom, Munchlax, and Pachirisu, and periodically provides players with a valuable item. At low levels, the chances of said item being a Dawn Stone are only around 5%, but, as the Pokemon's level increases, so too does the chance of them picking up a Dawn Stone, to a maximum of 10%.

Pokemon That Evolve Using a Dawn Stone in Brilliant Diamond Diamond & Shining Pearl

  • Kirlia -> Gallade
  • Snorunt -> Froslass

There are two Pokemon that evolve using a Dawn Stone in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, the first of which is Kirlia. For the stone to have any effect though, the Kirlia needs to be male, meaning that players may need to catch two or three of them to find the right gender. Players can find Kirlia on Routes 203 and 204 using the Poke Radar as well as in the Grand Underground. Snorunt can also be found in the Grand Underground and with the Poke Radar on Routes 216 and 217. This time, however, players will need a female Snorunt for the Dawn Stone to have any effect.
