First introduced in the gen 1 Pokemon games, few Legendary Pokemon are quite as iconic as Mewtwo, nor are there many that are more powerful. Since first appearing in Red & Blue more than a quarter of a century ago, the genetically engineered psychic-type has returned in numerous other Pokemon games and does so once again in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.

Unfortunately, however, those hoping to catch Mewtwo in the gen 4 remakes are going to have to bide their time, as, like many of the other Legendaries found in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Mewtwo cannot be caught until players are deep into the post-game. If ever players needed a little extra motivation to stick around though, the prospect of catching Mewtwo should more than suffice for most.

Where to Find Mewtwo in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Mewtwo can be found in the Genome Room at Ramanas park; a post-game area that becomes available once players have defeated the Elite Four and unlocked the National Dex. Unfortunately, however, encountering Mewtwo is far from a walk in the park, with players first needing to catch at least eight other Legendary Pokemon before the failed Mew clone decides to show up.

In order to encounter Legendary Pokemon at Ramanas Park, players will need to get their hands on special slates. When it comes to Mewtwo, they'll need a Genome Slate, which, like the others, must be traded for Mysterious Shards at the counter to the left of the park's entrance. This may all sound simple enough on paper, but players will need to find as many as 27 Mysterious Shards before they can get a Genome Slate, which will take most players at least four hours of grinding down in the Grand Underground to accomplish.

After players have caught the three Legendary Titans, Latios, Latias, and either the three Legendary Beasts (exclusive to Brilliant Diamond) or the three Legendary Birds (exclusive to Shining Pearl), they'll finally be able to pick themselves up a Genome Slate. They'll then need to take this to the Genome Room on the raised platform in the center of the park and place it in the Enigmatic Pedestal to summon Mewtwo.

Once it shows up, Mewtwo is actually a lot easier to catch than some of the other Pokemon found in Ramanas Park. This isn't because it has a low catch rate or anything like that, but instead because of its move set. Unlike the three Legendary Titans (which are prone to running out of PP and knocking themselves out), or the Weather Trio (which are able to heal themselves mid-battle), Mewtwo's move set is incredibly straightforward.

Three of its moves (Mist, Guard Swap, and Power Swap) are non-damaging and one has 30 PP, meaning that players only really need to worry about Psychic. As such, taking a dark-type Pokemon will allow them to gradually chip away at Mewtwo's health without having to worry about taking even the slightest bit of damage. Catching Mewtwo should therefore be pretty easy, especially when compared to some of the games' other Legendary Pokemon.
