Throughout players' journey in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl, they will be given a couple of Pokemon Eggs from some NPCs. Early on in BDSP, players can receive a Happiny egg from a Hiker in Hearthome City. And then later in the game, players will have access to a place called Canalave City, which is on the far west of the Sinnoh map. Here, a sailor will take players on a boat to an island far north of the city called Iron Island.
On Iron Island, players will need to traverse their way through a cave, defeating a few trainers and collecting hidden items along the way. Eventually, players will run into an NPC named Riley, who is donning a blue-colored outfit. He will join players in a couple of double battles in the cave and then a Team Galactic battle to wrap it all up. Once the fight ends, he'll thank players by giving them a mysterious egg. This guide will show Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players how to hatch the egg and which Pokemon contains.
What's Inside of Riley's Egg?
Once players hatch Riley's egg, they will find a baby Riolu. If players took notice of Riley's main Pokemon, Lucario, during the Iron Island fights, then they might've had an idea as to what Riley's Pokemon egg contains. Riolu is a Fighting-type Pokemon, and it's not much of a big deal in its current state, but Riolu actually evolves into a Lucario, an excellent addition to any Pokemon team due to some useful moves like Aura Sphere, Close Combat, and Bone Rush.

Players can evolve their Riolu into a Lucario by increasing its happiness level to a certain value during the daytime. There are many ways for players to max out their Pokemon's happiness in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but as long as players take care of Riolu and level it up, it'll eventually evolve, regardless if players try hard or not.
How to Hatch Riley's Egg
Like other eggs in the game, players will simply have to take a lot of steps and/or ride their bikes. To hatch this particular egg, it'll take about 6000 steps, and players can use the pedometer app for the Poketch to keep track. The fastest way to hatch an egg is to just find a straight path to easily ride the bike without stopping and then turn around and do it again and again.
