The Sinnoh region introduced many different evolution methods. While some Pokemon level up through trade or friendship, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl requires players to level up certain Pokemon in specific locations to evolve. Among these Pokemon is the Steel/Electric-type Magnezone.

Magnezone first entered the Pokemon world in Pokemon Diamond/Pokemon Pearl. It is the final evolution in the Magnemite-line. Before the Galar region, Magnezone could not be evolved with Thunder Stones. Its original evolution method, which involved leveling it up in an area with a special magnetic field, makes its return in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

How to Get and Evolve Magnemite

Pokemon Magnemite

Despite being part of the National Dex, Magnezone's pre-evolved form, Magnemite, can be caught before players challenge the Elite Four. Thanks to the Grand Underground, trainers can catch Pokemon that weren't available at the beginning of the original Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. This, of course, includes Magnemite.

Magnemite is a rare spawn and it will only appear in the following hideaways:

  • Spacious Cave
  • Icy Cave
  • Whiteout Cave
  • Glacial Cave

Depending on the number of badges the player has, Magnemite's level can be from as low as level 16 to as high as level 63. If players aren't having any luck finding one, they can increase the chances of Magnemite appearing by placing a Pikachu Statue in their Secret base.

Once Magnemite has been caught, the next step is evolving it into Magneton. It will evolve once it reaches level 30, so boost its friendship to get bonus experience or equip it with a Lucky Egg.

Then, take Magneton to Mt. Coronet and level it up once so it can evolve into Magnezone. The easiest way to get into Mt. Coronet is to enter from Route 207 or Route 208. Additionally, players can enter Mt. Coronet from Route 211 near Celestic Town. The Pokemon in the lower parts of Mt. Coronet will be extremely under level compared to the level 30 Magneton, so it may take a while to get it to level. If players have one, they can feed Magnezone a Rare Candy instead.

If players don't mind waiting, they can get the Thunder Stone in Sunyshore City and use it to evolve Magneton. However, since some Pokemon can only evolve with a Thunder Stone, it's better to evolve Magneton the old-fashioned way.

More Information About Magnezone

Magnezone has a glaring 4x weakness to Ground-type moves, but with a good strategy and Nature, this shouldn't hinder it. With a base stat total of 535, Magneton can be a solid Electric-type to add to the team. Here is what its base stats-spread looks like:

Stat

Base Number

HP

70

Attack

70

Defense

115

Special Attack

130

Special Defense

90

Speed

60

With high Special Attack and Defense, the best Nature for Magnezone is Modest (+Sp.Attk, -Attk) or Bold (+Def, -Attk). Avoid having Natures that decrease its Special Attack, Defense, or Special Defense.

Finally, to bypass its Ground weakness, have Magnezone carry an Air Balloon. This will protect Magnezone from Ground-type moves until it is attacked.
