The iconic Legendary Birds from Kanto and the Legendary Beasts from Johto make a return in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl. With the new Ramanas Park replacing Pal Park from Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, players are able to catch legendary Pokemon that aren't normally found in Sinnoh.

Like most Pokemon games, the Legendary Birds and Legendary Beasts are exclusive Pokemon. Those who have Brilliant Diamond can catch the Legendary Beasts: Entei, Raikou, and Suicune. In Shining Pearl, players have the chance of getting Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno instead. Getting these legendaries requires a bit of work too, and it will take a while before trainers can have a shot at catching them.

How to Unlock The Legendary Beasts/Birds

Before players can do anything in Ramanas Park, they will need to beat the Elite Four and have the National Dex. After getting the National Dex, they'll be notified of Ramanas Park. This is located to the south of Sandgem Town on Route 221. In Ramanas Park is the Discovery Room, which is where players can use Slates to spawn legendary Pokemon.

The Legendary Beasts/Birds will be unavailable until the player has caught Regirock, Registeel, and Regice. To do this, they need to speak to the receptionist in the Ramanas Park lobby and buy a Discovery Plate. One Plate costs 1 Mystery Shard (L) or 3 Mystery Shards (S), and players need to buy 3 Discovery Plates to get all three Regis.

Once this is done, players will have access to the Kanto Slate (Shining Pearl) or the Johto Slate (Brilliant Diamond). Just like the Discovery Plates, trainers will need to purchase 3 of each Slate to spawn all of the Legendary Beasts or Birds depending on which version they are playing. This means they will need a total of 3 Mystery Shards (L) or 9 Mystery Shards (S). Use the Kanto/Johto Slate in the Discovery Room to gain access to the Kanto/Johto Room.

Unfortunately, Mystery Shards can only be found in the Grand Underground and are quite rare to boot. One method of farming Shards is to enter the Underground, mine the nearest wall, and exit. Enter again and repeat the process. This will save players from running around the Underground looking for walls to dig into.

Catching the Legendary Beasts/Birds

All 6 Pokemon will be at level 70, just like the Regis. As Legendaries, they have an incredibly low catch rate. Bring Pokemon that can withstand their attacks and inflict status ailments. Some of the Legendaries are resistant to certain status ailments. For example, Zapdos and Raikou can't be paralyzed, Entei and Moltres can't be burned, and Articuno can't be frozen. However, they're all susceptible to Sleep ailment, so use Hypnosis or Sleep Powder and whittle away at their health to orange or red. Like with all legendaries, avoid knocking them out.

Players can try lobbing a Quick Ball at the start of battle, but it's highly recommended to bring Ultra Balls and Timer Balls to these encounters. A Net Ball, which is good for catching Water or Bug-type Pokemon, can be used on Suicune for those who have Brilliant Diamond.

Once the three beasts/birds have been caught, players will then be able to get Ho-oh (Brilliant Diamond) or Lugia (Shining Pearl). Remember that because these legendaries are exclusive, they need to be traded to the other version. Meaning if Shining Pearl trainers want Entei, Raikou, or Suicune, they'll need to trade with someone who's caught them in Brilliant Diamond.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl are available for Nintendo Switch.
