Since their debut in the Hoenn region as Roaming Pokemon, Latios and Latias have become an iconic duo in the Pokemon franchise. Thankfully, they are not Roaming Pokemon in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl, making it easier for players to get a Latios or Latias with their best Nature.

Unlike most Pokemon games, Latios and Latias are not exclusive Pokemon in Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl. As long as players buy the Soul Slate at Ramanas Park, they will have the chance to catch both of the Eon Pokemon. Players looking to get a Latios/Latias with a good Nature should save before battling, and prepare to soft reset and recatch if necessary.

Best Nature for Latios

pokemon tcg latios

Latios is a Dragon/Psychic-type, making it weak to Dragon, Ice, Fairy, Ghost, Bug, and Dark-type. Despite its many weaknesses, Latios is a great Special Attacker with high Speed and solid Special Defense. This often allows Latios to move before its opponent and occasionally 1-hit KO them. Latios' base stats are the following:

HP

80

Attack

90

Defense

80

Special Attack

130

Special Defense

110

Speed

110

With low Attack and Defense, it's best to avoid Natures that will give priority to those stats over Special Attack/Defense and Speed. However, Latios can manage fine if it has a Special Defense bane as long as its boon is in Speed or Special Attack.

Some good Natures for Latios to have are:

  • Naive (+Spd, -Sp. Def)
  • Hasty (+Spd, -Def)
  • Mild (+Sp. Attk, -Def)
  • Rash (+Sp. Attk, - Sp. Def)

Because Mild and Rash affect Latios' Defense and Special Defense, Latios will need to be able to outspeed the opponent to avoid getting knocked out. While these two Natures will give Latios a boost to his Special Attack, it may not be enough if he's facing a fast Pokemon.

Thus, between the four of them, Naive and Hasty are the better options because they give Latios the Speed growth he needs to move ahead of the opponent.

Natures that Latios will want to avoid are any that have a bane in Special Attack or Speed. Avoid Sassy (+Sp. Def, -Spd), Relaxed (+Def, -Spd), Brave (+Atk, -Spd), and Quiet (+Sp. Attk, -Spd). All of these Natures slow down Latios' best stats and are not worth having if players intend on using him competitively.

Best Nature for Latias

Latias from the Pokemon card game

Latias is the same as Latios, but her stats are reversed. Unlike her older brother, Latias has higher Special Defense and Defense. She shares the same Typing and weaknesses as Latios, but her Defense boons make her a little more durable.

Don't take Latias' marginally lower Special Attack for granted. Her best method of dealing damage is going to be through Special Attack rather than Attack. This means players want to avoid having a Latias with a Special Attack bane. Since her defenses are stronger than Latios, having a Nature that positively impacts her Defense/Special Defense growth are good second options. Here are some of Latias' better natures:

  • Timid (+Spd, -Attk)
  • Modset (+Sp. Attk, -Attk)
  • Calm (+Sp. Def, -Attk)
  • Gentle (+Sp. Def, -Def)

Latias doesn't need a high Attack to do well in battle. She will, however, need Speed if she's hoping to outspeed her opponent. Players looking to make Latias a hard hitter can do so by having a Modest Latias. Those who want her to be bulkier should go with the Calm and Gentle Nature instead.

The ideal Nature for Latias is Timid because it will give her the Speed growth she needs while sacrificing her relatively useless Attack stat.

Avoid the Careful (+Sp. Def, -Sp. Attk), Adamant (+Atk, -Sp. Attk), Naughty (+Attk, -Sp. Def), and Sassy (+Sp. Def, -Spd) Natures. Any Nature that decreases Latias' Special Attack/Defense or Speed is not recommended.
