Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the highly anticipated remakes of the Pokemon games set in the Sinnoh region. While some players revisit the original Generation 4 games frequently, others may not have played since the original releases 15 years ago, so a recap of what Pokemon are available in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl wouldn't hurt!

While Pokemon Diamond and Pearl aren't known for their abundance of choices when it comes to Electric-type Pokemon, every great Pokemon team needs one, and since there are no Electric-type starters in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, it's important that players know their options. There are some great choices for Electric-type Pokemon that are easy to overlook.

Updated on February 28, 2022 by Renri Seong: Electric-type Pokemon are useful Pokemon to have on the team due to their type effectiveness. They're strong against Water and Flying-type, which are common Pokemon found in the wild. Since Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl only covers four generations of Pokemon, many Electric-type Pokemon aren't available in the Diamond/Pearl remakes. Fortunately, there is still a handful of that players can choose from. Some of these Pokemon are readily available while others can only be caught in the postgame and may or may not be version-exclusives. The following list has been updated to include more Electric-type Pokemon that can be caught in BDSP.

14 Pachirisu

Pokemon Pachirisu Jumping

Pachirisu really shines when it comes to its Speed stat. At 95, Pachirisu can outpace many opponents during battle. Pachirisu can fall short in its Attack and HP, though so players may not take it all the way to the Elite Four.

Pachirisu can most easily be caught by walking in tall grass at Feugo Ironworks or Route 205, where it has a good chance to spawn.

Pachirisu's Stats:

HP: 60

Attack: 45

Special Attack: 45

Defense: 70

Special Defense: 90

Speed: 95

Total: 405

13 Plusle / Minun

Pokemon Plusle Minun smiling

Plusle and Minun are technically two separate Pokemon, and while players likely won't choose both Pokemon to fill the Electric-type spot on their team, they both have their benefits. Plusle is a more attack-focused Pokemon, while Minun is a more defensive Pokemon. Both Pokemon have an impressive Speed stat of 95, which can be useful in battle, and their sole Electric-typing means that they have few weaknesses.

Both Plusle and Minun can be caught in Trophy Garden while walking in tall grass.

Plusle's Stats:

HP: 60 Attack: 50 Special Attack: 85 Defense: 40 Special Defense: 75 Speed: 95 Total: 405

Minun's Stats:

HP: 60 Attack: 40 Special Attack: 75 Defense: 50 Special Defense: 85 Speed: 95 Total: 405

12 Lanturn

Pokemon Lanturn Shining

While Lanturn isn't hailed as the best Electric-type Pokemon, it has its merits. Lanturn's HP stat of 125 is impressive, especially compared to its other lower stats like its 58 Defense and Attack stats. Lanturn's opposing Water and Electric Dual-typing gives it great weakness and resistance.

Chinchou, Lanturn's base evolution, and Lanturn itself can be caught using a fishing rod on Route 220.

Lanturn's Stats:

HP: 125

Attack: 58

Special Attack: 76

Defense: 58

Special Defense: 76

Speed: 67

Total: 460

11 Raichu

Pokemon Raichu raising arms

The iconic Pikachu evolution, Raichu, boasts a great Speed stat of 110 and, as most Electric-type Pokemon, can outpace most opponents in battle. Raichu falls short of being an amazing Pokemon when it comes to its low HP and Defense stats though its few weaknesses help with this issue.

Raichu evolves from Pichu and subsequently Pikachu, which can both be caught in Trophy Garden by walking in tall grass. Players will need a Thunder Stone to evolve Pikachu into Raichu, which can be found in Sunyshore City.

Raichu's Stats:

HP: 60

Attack: 90

Special Attack: 90

Defense: 55

Special Defense: 80

Speed: 110

Total: 485

10 Electrode

Pokemon Electrode smiling

While Electrode's HP and Attack stats are nothing to write home about, its enormous Speed stat is more than enough to make up for it. With iconic moves like Explosion and Self-Destruct, which results in Electrode fainting, most players choose to use Electrode only as a last resort, though it has a decent enough move pool to be used as a Pokemon in most players' main team.

Voltorb, Electrodes lower evolution, can be caught in tall grass on Route 218 and also in the Grand Underground. Voltorb will evolve into Electrode at level 30, which shouldn't pose any issues to players with Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's constant Exp. Share.

Electrode's Stats:

HP: 60

Attack: 50

Special Attack: 80

Defense: 70

Special Defense: 80

Speed: 150

Total: 490

9 Ampharos

Pokemon Ampharos standing in forest

Ampharos is a great Pokemon for any team. It has a surprisingly low Speed stat for an Electric-type Pokemon, coming in at just 55, but its other stats are decent enough to compensate. Ampharos' wide variety of moves make it a great choice for a team needing versatility, as it can learn some Electric, Fighting, Fire, and even Dragon-type moves.

Ampharos evolves from Mareep and Flaaffy at levels 15 and 30, respectively. An already evolved Flaaffy can be found in tall grass on Route 222 using Poke Radar.

Ampharos' Stats:

HP: 90

Attack: 75

Special Attack: 115

Defense: 85

Special Defense: 90

Speed: 55

Total: 510

8 Luxray

Pokemon Luxray battle pose

Luxray is a great fit for any Pokemon team and compliments all of Generation 4's starter Pokemon well. Luxray's Speed stat is considerably lower than other Electric-type Pokemon available, but its high Attack stat of 120 and Special Attack stat of 95 make it a huge threat to opponents in battle. Shinx, Luxray's base evolution, can also be caught early in a playthrough making it useful for the long-term game.

Shinx is widely available to be caught, found in tall grass in Route 202, Route 203, Route 204, and Fuego Ironworks. Shinx can also be caught in the Grand Underground.

Luxray's Stats:

HP: 80

Attack: 120

Special Attack: 95

Defense: 79

Special Defense: 79

Speed: 70

Total: 523

7 Magnezone

Pokemon Magnezone angry

Having huge Defense and Special Attack stats, Magnezone is a great choice for a heavy-hitting Pokemon that players can take all the way to the Elite Four. Its Special Attack stat of 130 is higher than some legendary Pokemon's, and Magnezone has a bolstered move pool to back it up. Its Dual Steel and Electric-typing also give it a bundle of resistances and only one real threat in its 4X damage weakness to Ground-type moves.

Magnemite, Magnezone's unevolved form, can be found most easily in tall grass at Fuego Ironworks, but can also be found in the Grand Underground. Players will need a Thunder Stone to fully evolve this Pokemon into Magnezone, which can be found in Sunyshore City.

Magnezone's Stats:

HP: 70

Attack: 70

Special Attack: 130

Defense: 115

Special Defense: 90

Speed: 60

Total: 535

6 Jolteon

Pokemon Jolteon battle pose

Jolteon is an iconic Pokemon from Generation 1 and has remained one of the more reliable Electric-type Pokemon for players throughout the Pokemon series. Its strong Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed stat make it a great choice for players, and its sole Electric-typing gives it few weaknesses where other Dual Electric-type Pokemon fall behind.

Jolteon's pre-evolution, Eevee, can be caught in tall grass in Trophy Garden, and after using a Thunder Stone can be turned into the Electric Pokemon.

Jolteon's Stats:

HP: 65

Attack: 65

Special Attack: 110

Defense: 60

Special Defense: 95

Speed: 130

Total: 525

5 Electivire (Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Exclusive)

Pokemon Electivire in battle

Electivire is an all-around great choice for players looking for a strong attack Pokemon. Electivire's 123 Attack stat and 95 Special Attack stat make it a safe choice for an Electric-type option. Electivire is an exclusive Pokemon found in the wild only in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond.

Electivire's base evolution, Elekid, can be found in the Grand Underground in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond only and will need to be evolved into Electabuzz before being traded holding an Electirizer to evolve into Electivire.

Electivire's Stats:

HP: 75

Attack: 123

Special Attack: 95

Defense: 67

Special Defense: 85

Speed: 95

Total: 540

4 Raikou (Brilliant Diamond only)

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX Raikou

Raikou is part of the Legendary beasts trio of the Johto region. Like most Electric-type Pokemon, it's fast and has a high Special Attack. Being a Legendary Pokemon means that it takes longer to level up, but it makes up for it in its high base stats. Players can catch Raikou at Ramanas Park in Brilliant Diamond's postgame. Unfortunately for Shining Pearl players, Raikou and the other Legendary beasts won't appear - they'll catch Zapdos instead.

Raikou's only drawback is its low Defense and low Attack. This means if it takes a Physical-damage dealing move, there's a high chance it will be 1HKO.

Raikou's Stats

HP: 90

Attack: 85

Special Attack: 115

Defense: 75

Special Defense: 100

Speed: 115

Total: 580

3 Zapdos (Shining Pearl only)

Pokemon Zapdos

Zapdos is the Electric-type of the Legendary birds of the Kanto region. While Brilliant Diamond players will get a chance at catching Raikou, Shining Pearl players get Zapdos. Like most of the Legendary Pokemon in BDSP, players won't be able to enter Ramanas Park until after they've beaten the Elite Four and received the National Dex.

Unlike Raikou, Zapdos is a dual Electric/Flying-type Pokemon. This means it has access to moves that are super-effective against Grass-type Pokemon, which resist Electric-type moves. While Zapdos loses its weakness to Ground-type Pokemon, it gains a weakness to Ice and Rock-type moves. Despite this, Zapdos' Speed and Special Attack as well as moderate Defense stats make it a little bulkier than Raikou.

Zapdos' Stats

HP: 90

Attack: 90

Special Attack: 125

Defense: 85

Special Defense: 90

Speed: 100

Total: 580

2 Manectric

fastest-pokemon-manectric

Manectric is one of the few Electric-type Pokemon from the Hoenn region. It's not a Legendary like Raikou and Zapdos, but it once had the ability to Mega Evolve. Unfortunately, Pokemon has yet to bring back Mega Evolution to recent mainline games. However, Manectric's base Speed and Special Attack of 105 means its capable of attacking first and hitting hard.

Players won't be able to catch Manectric in the wild, but they can catch its pre-evolved form, Electrike. Once players become Pokemon Champion, they will be introduced to the BDSP's Swarm mechanic. This is when certain species of Pokemon start appearing in specific locations around Sinnoh. Electrike is a Swarm Pokemon that has a 40% chance of appearing at the Valley Windworks. Since Swarm Pokemon are randomized daily, there's no set way to make Electrike appear. When players catch Electrike, it will be level 7, and Electrike evolves into Manectric at level 26.

Manectric's Stats

HP: 70

Attack: 75

Special Attack: 105

Defense: 60

Special Defense: 60

Speed: 105

Total: 475

1 Rotom

Pokemon Fan Makes New Rotom Forms

In Pokemon Platinum, players could catch Rotom before getting the National Dex. This isn't the case for Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, where the method of catching Rotom reflects the original method back in Diamond/Pearl. Unlike Diamond/Pearl, BDSP includes the Secret Key, a Key Item required to change Rotom's forms.

Alone, Rotom is an Electric/Ghost-type Pokemon. However, if trainers take the Secret Key to the Galactic Hideout, they can unlock the Secret Room which is home to all types of Rotom appliances. These appliances cost Rotom a bit of its base Attack and Speed in exchange for higher Special Attack, Special Defense, and Defense.

  • Having Rotom interact with the microwave makes it Heat Rotom. It loses its Ghost-typing for Fire-typing.
  • Interact with the fan to get Fan Rotom, who becomes Electric/Flying-type.
  • The fridge makes Rotom Frost Rotom, an Electric/Ice-type.
  • The lawnmower will make Rotom the Electric/Grass-type Mow Rotom.
  • Lastly, Wash Rotom, the Electric/Water-type form, can be obtained by interacting with the washing machine.

* Players can have Rotom change forms by selecting a different appliance in the catalogue or the Secret Room.
