The news that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl wouldn't include any Pokemon from after Gen IV was a disappointment to fans of Pokemon from newer generations. Fans of Fairy type Pokemon, which were introduced in Gen VI, will at least be happy to know that Pokemon which were retroactively changed to Fairy type retain that typing in the Sinnoh remakes.

Between the two games, players will have their pick of 20 Fairy types spread out across the Sinnoh region. From several different routes to the Trophy Garden to the Grand Underground, here are the best places to nab some Fairy types.

10 Route 230

togepi enounter

Between walking the tall grass and surfing or fishing in the water, Route 230 is home to a large variety of Pokemon. Its sole Fairy type, Togepi, requires a bit more pointed effort to find. To track down Togepi, players will need to use the Pokeradar they obtained from Professor Rowan in Sandgem Town after upgrading the Sinnoh Pokedex.

Simply charge it up by taking 50 steps and then activate it to find hidden Pokemon. It's also a great way to obtain shinies, so if trainers are looking for a shiny Togepi, this method gives them the greatest chance of finding one.

9 Route 218

Pokemon Mr Mime

Mr. Mime, a Psychic/Fairy type, is a solid special defender with a fair amount of bulk. While it's hardly an S-Tier Pokemon and may not hold its own in competitive battling, it's a good choice for a well-rounded team and can easily fulfill its necessary role in the base game.

Mr. Mime is one of the most prevalent Fairy types in the game. The first place it can be encountered in the overworld is Route 218 in the tall grass. As an evolved Pokemon, Mr. Mime can be a little harder to catch, but there are other ways to obtain one.

8 Route 209

Also a Psychic/Fairy type, Mime Jr. evolves into Mr. Mime after learning Mimic. It can be found on Routes 209 and 210 and has a much higher base capture rate, so players who want an easier capture can go after Mime Jr. and evolve it.

Trainers who are filling out their Pokedex will also want to aim for Mime Jr. since forgoing it in favor of Mr. Mime will cost them a Pokedex entry. Alternatively, players who like Mime Jr. for its cuteness or are just freaked out by Mr. Mime may choose to keep the little one just the way it is.

7 Mt. Coronet

Clefairy have a long and storied history of hanging out in caves, so the giant mountain bisecting the Sinnoh region is the obvious place to look for them. There's even a 5% chance of them having a Moon Stone when caught, which is exactly what trainers need to evolve it to a Clefable.

Cleffa also appear in the mountain, but at a much lower spawn rate. Again, completionists or connoisseurs of cute may want to do some extra wandering, but for a player who's looking for a nice bulky pure Fairy type can easily bypass the baby Pokemon.

6 Route 203

Ralts is a Psychic/Fairy-type that can be caught using the Pokeradar. Both Ralts and its evolution, Kirlia, are hidden Pokemon on Routes 203 and 204. Players should keep in mind whether they want their Kirlia to evolve into Gardevoir, a Psychic/Fairy type, or Gallade, a Psychic/Fighting type.

If the trainer wants a Gardevoir then they don't have to worry about gender. If they want a Gallade, they'll have to make sure they catch a male Ralts or Kirlia. Male Kirlia can be evolved into Gallade using a Dawn Stone, which can be found in Mt. Coronet.

5 Great Marsh

Azurill, a Normal/Fairy type, and its evolution Marill, a Water/Fairy type, can be found in the tall grass of the Great Marsh. Wild Marill also attack trainers who surf in the Great Marsh. Neither of them can be fished up with any kind of rod.

Since there are 25 different species of wild Pokemon that spawn in the grass and only 4 that spawn while surfing, players who specifically want a Marill can save time by surfing instead of running through the grass. Completionists, of course, will still need to venture into the tall grass to find Azurill.

4 Fountainspring Cave (Grand Underground)

fountainspring

Fountainspring Cave is part of the Grand Underground, where a huge variety of Pokemon can be caught. Two Fairy types can be found in this type of Hideaway: Togepi and Ralts. Both of these cute little Pokemon evolve into major powerhouses over time. Togepi's final evolution, Togekiss, is a widely used competitive Pokemon and the most powerful Fairy-type in the Sinnoh remakes.

Tracking these two down is actually easier earlier in the game, since a larger variety of Pokemon spawn in the Grand Underground as players progress through the game and reach certain milestones.

3 Dazzling Cave (Grand Underground)

Dazzling Cave is also a type of hideaway in the Grand Underground. Like Fountainspring Cave, players can find Ralts and Togepi there from the onset. After getting their seventh badge, trainers can also encounter Mr. Mime in the cavern.

With the addition of the National Pokedex, more Fairy Pokemon become available in this area. Snubbull, a pure Fairy type, and Mawile, a Fairy/Steel type, finally show their faces along with the fashionably late Kirlia.

2 Stargleam Cavern (Grand Underground)

The final Underground location to contain Fairy-types, Stargleam Cavern, has the exact same Fairy types which show up in the same order. In fact, almost all of the Pokemon spawns between the two are the same. The big reason to pick Stargleam Cavern over Dazzing Cave is that only Stargleam Cavern has Nidoran-M.

While running around looking for certain Pokemon, players may as well give themselves a chance to run into an exclusive Pokemon too.

1 Trophy Garden

Lastly, there's Mr. Backlot's Trophy Garden, which rotates out different Pokemon daily. Players can keep track by following the National Pokedex in sequential order to see when the Pokemon they want will be in the garden. Fairy types that appear include Azurill, Marill, Cleffa, Clefairy, Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, and Mime Jr. It is also the only place in the game where the ever popular Normal/Fairy types Igglybuff and Jigglypuff spawn.

When going after a Pokemon in the Trophy Garden, players should make absolutely sure they have their days right. If they miss their window of opportunity, it'll be a long time before they'll have another chance.
