The launch date of both Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is drawing closer by the day, but while this updated re-release appears to have added a variety of new tweaks and features to the original Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, it also seems to have removed a few things. A new Japanese overview trailer released online seems to confirm that the Battle Frontier will not be returning in the Gen 4 remakes.

Although there is no formal announcement as of yet that the Battle Frontier won't be in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, signs certainly seem to be pointing in that direction. The Battle Frontier is a Pokemon Platinum exclusive consisting of five different facilities, including the Battle Tower. In the Battle Frontier, players could take on NPC trainers in several battle formats, win Battle Points, and exchange those points for valuable items.

Unlike the rest of the Battle Frontier, the Battle Tower made its first appearance in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and it is clearly shown on the world map featured in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's overview trailer. However, the rest of the Battle Frontier seems to be missing. Additionally, the Battle Park that the Battle Frontier replaced is also visible on the map, suggesting that Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be aiming to recapture the world of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl rather than Platinum.

This may not be a surprise to gamers, as the Battle Frontier was also missing from Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire despite having been originally introduced in Pokémon Emerald. It did make an appearance in Pokémon Heart Gold & Soul Silver, but the feature hasn't been seen in any Pokemon games since. While its apparent absence may be disappointing to fans, the Battle Frontier is far from the only feature that seems to have been removed from Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

As of writing, it appears that fans are reluctantly accepting of this news. One group of Redditors started a debate over whether or not the latest Pokemon games, including Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, are being phoned in. One user noted that Game Freak's constant cutting of corners may be linked to a perceived subtle defeatist attitude, where Game Freak assumes that Pokemon fans will be more interested in mobile games than console games. Another user stated that a version of Battle Frontier available in Pokemon Home would be incredible. While fans will need to wait and see if the feature is indeed being removed, a return does seem unlikely.
