Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are great additions to the franchise thanks to some of their improved features, such as the Grand Underground. One thing Pokemon Diamond and Pearl did well was the Poke Radar, which allowed players to look for specific critters while in locations where they could spawn, also making the act of finding many of them in a row good for hunting Shiny Pokemon. This is something that Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl do as well, making them the perfect games for catching lots of Shiny Pokemon.

Another great way to find Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is by exploring the Grand Underground and finding Digletts and Dugtrios in the tunnels. Collecting the purple essence they leave behind is key to this method, as reaching a total of 40 activates the Diglett Rush event, during which players have an increased chance of finding Colored Statues while excavating and Shiny Pokemon exploring the caves. Still, one of the most exciting experiences is still that of finding a Shiny critter in the wilds.

As such, it's all the more wholesome to witness what happened to a Reddit user by the name of abraxus__, who shared a post stating that they were looking for a random Tentacool to complete their Sinnoh Pokedex, and instead ran into a Shiny version of it. This happened completely by chance, and the Shiny Pokemon was the first to appear while surfing near the coast of Route 222. The player is especially happy about the pleasant surprise Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl had in store for them, as they first encountered a Shiny Tentacool in Pokemon Emerald and inadvertently ran away from it.

New Pokemon players who encounter Shiny critters might be a bit confused about them the first time it happens, and the games don't explicitly state what the odds of finding one are. Encounters like this are very unique, and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl do them justice, albeit partly.

In fact, some players have been lamenting early Shiny encounters in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, when Poke Balls are not even available, meaning that the rare critters have to be defeated in battle to progress. This is something that should change in the Pokemon series moving forward, and players should be careful about it for now.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available now on Nintendo Switch.
