On top of trying to complete the Pokedex, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players have to take on each and every gym on their way to defeating the Elite Four and becoming the Pokemon Champion. This can be a challenge for even the most complete teams but, by relying only on Bidoofs and a Bibarel in their playthrough, one player made this task in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl even more difficult.
With the release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players have been brought back to the Sinnoh region and its unique Pokemon. A relatively common Pokemon, Bidoof is encountered early on in the games and has become recognized for its ability to learn special moves known as Hidden Machines or HMs.
In a post u/Rumari, shares the victory screen players see after winning the Pokemon Championship and it is a Bidoof fan's dream. For those who haven't been following the franchise, Bidoof has become a bit of a Pokemon meme for its poor treatment by players. Bidoof in the original Pokemon Diamond and Pearl became many players' choice for learning as many HMs as possible so as to keep those attack slots open on their Pokemon team. These games often blocked progress behind the use of these HMs, forcing players to teach their Pokemon. Instead, players treated Bidoof as just an HM sponge and this popularity has led it to become a bit of a meme. This team assembled by u/Rumari flips that script by having 5 Bidoofs and a Bibarel win the League Championship.
Though these Pokemon aren’t inherently weak like Magikarps, it is a strange sight to see a team that focuses exclusively on one particular Pokemon. Beating the Elite Four in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl can be quite a challenge even for a set of 6 Pokemon that compliment one another’s strengths and weaknesses, let alone one Bibarel and 5 Bidoofs. But having each Bidoof at level 69 and the Bibarel at level 81 must have made this challenge at least a little bit easier.
The use of Bidoof as an HM sponge in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl goes to show the frustration players have had with these moves and their requirement for progressing through the game. As powerful as some can be (like Surf and Fly) some players still get frustrated with them taking up a space where a more powerful option could slot in.
Then again, HMs have been present in the series since the beginning and they have often be helpful in guiding players to where they need to travel to next. Either way, this team of Bidoofs and a Bibarel beating the Elite 4 is an impressive achievement and a great tribute to the memorable Pokemon.
