Pokemon the Series: XY is one of the most beloved seasons of the Pokemon anime. The series follows Ash and his partner Pikachu on a journey through the Kalos region. Like in previous anime seasons, Ash is joined by companions who appear in the season's respective Pokemon title games, Pokemon X & Y.

Aside from Serena, the female player character from X & Y who joins Ash's journey, Ash is accompanied by Clemont, the Electric-type Gym Leader in Lumiose City. Along with Clemont's sister, Bonnie, he becomes a valuable ally to Ash Ketchum in their adventures, as well as a powerful adversary. These episodes are Clemont's best moments to shine.

10 Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin!

Clemont and Bonnie meeting Ash in Kalos

Clemont and his sister first appear in the very first episode of Pokemon the Series: XY, when Ash first arrives in the Kalos region. Upon their initial meet, Ash is already eager to battle Clemont, who takes on Ash as a challenge. That is, until their battle is interrupted by none other than Team Rocket, who again want to steal Ash's Pikachu.

While Ash and Clemont team up to stop Team Rocket, they're surprised by the arrival of a Froakie, who rescues the group from capture. After Froakie is injured, Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie rush to take him to Professor Sycamore's lab for treatment. Already, Clemont has proven to be a great rival to Ash, as well as an astute ally.

9 The Future Is Now, Thanks to Determination!

Clemont saving Luxio from an electric blast

When the 62nd episode begins, Clemont is reminded of his promise to allow Ash to challenge him in the Lumiose City Gym. However, having followed Ash's journey thus far, Clemont is beginning to have second thoughts about his ability to defeat Ash. He gets the chance to prove himself after an accident ensues at the Kalos Power Plant.

Predictably, the problem at Kalos Power Plant is Team Rocket's presence, trying to capture Pokemon again. Clemont comes to help, though for a moment he struggles to control his Luxio. Once the problem is solved, Clemont realizes he needs time to train before his big match against Ash, and departs from the traveling group to return to his Gym Leader role.

8 A Trip Down Memory Train!

From the first time Ash meets Clemont, the Electric-type Gym Leader's companion is Bunnelby, a Pokemon native to Kalos. However, it isn't until the 88th episode of the series that Clemont explains how he and Bunnelby came to be partners. The story begins when Clemont is mistakenly thrown out of Lumiose Gym by Clembot, his own invention.

After a Bunnelby steals an apple from Bonnie, Clemont helps her chase it down. When they come across the Bunnelby being attacked by a much larger Diggersby, Clemont saves it. Clemont then assists Bunnelby in training, so it can stand up to the Diggersby. He eventually decides to catch the Bunnelby and take it along with him on his own journey.

7 Facing The Grand Design!

Ash and Clemont protecting Serena and Bonnie in a forest

In this episode, Ash and his companions find themselves ambushed by Malamar en route to Coumarine City. At the same time, the Team Rocket trio is also attacked by a Malamar, who have the power to hypnotize wandering humans and Pokemon. In a twist of fate, everybody is captured except for Clemont, James, Meowth, and Inkay.

Befriending a nice group of Malamar, Clemont and James confront the evil Malamar, and are able to free the others. It's a rare moment when Ash's friends and Team Rocket must join forces, but it's well worth the compromise, as everyone is able to keep their Pokemon. It's all thanks to Clemont's Bunnelby helping them escape the Malamar in the first place.

6 The Right Hero for the Right Job!

Clemont mourning the fallen Clembot with Chespin and Bunnelby

Late into Pokemon the Series: XY, Ash and his friends become occupied with thwarting a plot by Lysandre to take over the world. In this episode, Ash is in the midst against Lysandre, teaming up with his rival Alain, while Bonnie confronts the legendary Zygarde. However, most of this episode's conflict revolves around Clemont's mission.

Clemont makes it into the Lumiose Gym, attempting to infiltrate Team Flare's security system. Clemont confronts Xerosic, the Team Flare scientist who is controlling Zygarde, and challenges him to a battle. After defeating Xerosic, Clemont takes control of the system, sadly sacrificing Clembot in order to destroy Team Flare's machine.

However, Clembot has malfunctioned, not allowing Clemont to enter his own gym. Clemont recruits Ash to help sneak into Lumiose Tower to repair Clembot. With Clembot fixed, Clemont and Bonnie return to traveling with Ash and Serena, but not before promising Ash that they'll return after Ash earns enough badges to challenge Clemont.

4 A Campus Reunion!

Clemont as a child playing with Shinx

In this episode, Clemont takes Ash, Serena, and Bonnie to the academy where he first became an Electric-type master. There, Clemont reunites with a Luxio that he met in school when it was a Shinx, who is resentful of Clemont after he failed to return for it. When Team Rocket arrives to steal the Luxio, Clemont must come to his old friend's rescue.

Together, Clemont and Luxio stop Team Rocket, but Clemont fears that Luxio won't forgive him for abandoning him all those years ago. Luxio surprises Clemont by showing up anyway to their meeting. After catching the Electric-type Pokemon, Clemont continues on his journey with Ash, Serena, and Bonnie, with an old friend in tow.

3 Heroes - Friends and Faux Alike!

While Ash and his companions head to Shalour City, Team Rocket have another scheme in the works: dressing up as Ash and his friends and wreaking havoc in a city. When the real Ash, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie arrive, they're puzzled by the harsh welcome by townsfolk and Officer Jenny. However, Team Rocket's plan isn't done here.

Posing as scientists, Jessie and James lure Clemont away from the others to inquire about a technological issue. With Clemont distracted, Team Rocket enacts a plan to capture Pikachu, but Clemont smells the ruse. As Team Rocket use Clemont's teleportation device to capture Pikachu, it malfunctions and blows them up, which was all Clemont's plan.

2 Till We Compete Again!

In the finale of Pokemon the Series: XY, Ash parts ways with the new friends he made in the Kalos region. Once she leaves, Clemont challenges Ash to one last Pokemon battle before he leaves, which Ash happily accepts.

The most emotional aspect of this battle is that it isn't shown. While Ash sends out Pikachu and Clemont sends out Bunnelby, the show cuts to Serena arriving in Hoenn, remembering all the good times they had throughout their Kalos journeys. This wouldn't be Clemont's last appearance in the anime, as he briefly returned in Pokemon Journeys: the Series.

1 The Moment of Lumiose Truth!

Clemont's Luxray facing Ash's Goodra in raining Electric Terrain

After Clemont departs from Ash's party in "The Future is Now, Thanks to Determination," their highly-anticipated battle finally comes five episodes later. The episode-long battle begins with Bunnelby vs Pikachu, which ends in favor of Pikachu, despite Bunnelby's improved performance. However, the next matchup shakes up Ash's strategy.

When Clemont's Heliolisk outspeeds Ash's Goodra, Ash swaps in his Hawlucha, which overpowers Heliolisk despite a type disadvantage. Finally, Clemont's evolved Luxray, his most powerful Pokemon, faces Ash's Goodra. However, Luxray is no match for Goodra's attacks, and Ash defeats Clemont in battle, earning himself the Voltage Badge.
