Some new art for the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield anime has leaked ahead of the show's scheduled release in November. The art confirms the show's protagonist and gives fans a sneak peak at the visual style the refreshed Pokemon cartoon aims to capture.

The Pokemon Company has confirmed that the new Sword and Shield show will reboot the anime since the original has had a continuous story since it began in the 90s. As the original show progressed, it unveiled new regions and new Pokemon to coincide with the release of each new game. The story followed Ash Ketchum in his quest to become a Pokemon Master and some folks have worried that rebooting the Pokemon anime would mean replacing Ash as the show's star.

The new art, which appeared on Twitter thanks to @pkjd818, should assuage these fears. While the show has taken on a new visual style, the main character clearly still resembles Ash with his famous Pikachu in tow. This confirms that Ash will star in the new show.

The first bit of leaked art looks like a Japanese poster for the show. The poster features a large Poke ball with Pokemon's versions of famous landmarks dotted around the outside and the new characters bursting through the center. The new Pokemon anime will visit every single region in the series history, beginning with the Galar region, which will serve as the setting for the Sword and Shield video game. This poster represents that with little hints to all of the games' locations and special creatures littered throughout.

The second piece of art gives a closer look at the character designs of two of the show's main characters. The first character looks like Ash with his signature red had and blue jacket. Ash has shorts on and a green backpack, and Pikachu stands at his feet. A second character stands to Ash's right. This looks like a new character, as they don't resemble anyone from the shows past. A Scorbunny, one of Sword and Shield's new starters, stands beside the new character.

The new designs look like a proper evolution for the show. The characters look more cartoony and their proportions and designs mimic the style of the recent games in the series. It makes sense to reboot the show at this point. When the original show came out, the games still featured pixelated sprites. Now that the games have a higher graphic fidelity, The Pokemon Company can create a consistent visual style.

The new anime will launch alongside the Pokemon Sword and Shield game in November. Now that fans know that Ash will be in the show, they can begin to speculate about other cameos from the previous series.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield will release on November 15 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
