The website PlayVS provides a platform to organize amateur esports events for kids, from ages 13 to 18, giving high school and college students the opportunity to play esports competitively. The site provides statistics tracking, coaching tools, and support specialists for organizers to successfully create and manage an esports team. Now, PlayVS has created a summer competitive event for any high school or college student in the United States and Canada.

PlayVS has partnered with game publishers like Riot, Epic, Valve, and Activision Blizzard to allow students to competitively play Nintendo’s brawler Super Smash Bros Ultimate, League of Legends, Overwatch and other popular esports titles. This gives even non-athletic students the chance to experience team-based extracurricular activities, which are believed by many in the educational field to be key to building confidence and developing social skills.

This year, PlayVS will be holding its first annual July Jam, a free-to-play summer competition event that is open to any high school or college student in the United States and Canada. Players will compete in Rocket League, League of Legends, and Fortnite Solos matches, with a chance to take home a chunk of a $40,000 prize pool.

July Jam will be divided into two three-day esports events. Event 1, which runs from July 13-15, will be open to both high school and college students, although college students can only participate in the Fortnite competitions. Event 2 takes place from July 27-29 and will be limited to high schoolers only. For those interested, PlayVS has a Discord channel to help potential participants keep track of when and how to enroll for the events.

For Rocket League and League of Legends, players will only be eligible to win if they participate in all three days of a July Jam event or win all three of their matches. Rocket League players will compete in teams of three in a “best of five” battle, and League of Legends competitors will play on teams of five in a “best of three” format. During both events, teams that play on all three match days can win $500, and teams that win all three of their matches can take home $1,000. A total of 54 teams will be chosen as winners across both events and games.

Fortnite players will compete in Solos, with one match consisting of six games. Participants have to play at least one day during the event to be eligible to win, and there will be 64 teams selected for a cash prize. Players can win $100 for each day they play during both events, and those who participate in all three days of an event can take home $250. High school and college students interested in participating in the July Jam competitions can register on the PlayVS website.
