Trophies and achievements have been used as bragging rights from gamers for over a decade now. While the likes of Stallion83 have achieved remarkable milestones for Xbox achievements by cracking the 1 million gamerscore threshold, one PlayStation gamer has staked his own claim to fame. His achievement has reached such incredible heights that it has become an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records, with a collection of platinum trophies that is definitely impressive.

Hakam Karem, 34, is the proud owner of over 1,700 platinum trophies, meaning he's completed all of the base challenges in that many PlayStation games. What makes Karem's achievement more significant when compared to Stallion83 is that gamerscores are based off an accumulation of points earned by completing achievements, meaning gamescore doesn't reflect the number of games in which a player has completed all of its challenges. Platinum trophies, however, are only unlocked after completing every challenge/achievement that a game has to offer.

There are a few loopholes as to how Hakam Karem was able to accomplish such a feat. One method used by many trophy hunters include playing the same game with separate trophy lists across different platforms. For example, Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 1 can be played on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 3, yet have separate trophy lists for a new platinum trophy per system. Other exploits including having access to games in different regions, and more recently a large number of cross-buy games with separate trophy lists for PS4 and PlayStation Vita, meaning players are able to earn two Platinum trophies for the price of one. Sony has begun to catch on to this method of developers using easy trophy lists as a selling point for their games, and have even removed games entirely from the PlayStation Store.

The recent surge of easily obtainable trophies in games is also apparent when looking at Karem's upward trend recently. Karem's journey of hunting trophies began back in 2008, meaning on average he completes roughly 170 games each year. However thanks to the aforementioned ease of many new games released this year, he has already earned over 320 Platinum trophies through October.

Thanks to his obsession for trophy hunting, Karem's Guinness world record plaque has already been notably outdated also. The commemorative plaque lists him as having 1,691 platinum trophies, but by the time he received his award had already reached 1,724, mean he'd gone on to complete 32 additional games from the time of submitting for the record back in September.
