Recently, a Millie A rumor gained traction online where she allegedly Sony was canceling its PlayStation Showcase. This event has taken place every September for the past few years, and many found it odd that October had come without any update. Many kept faith it was coming though, but recent developments seem to support this Sony rumor.

Allegedly, Sony decided to cancel the PS Showcase because of Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard King. The thought process is supposed that this would strengthen Microsoft's arguments, especially as it would likely involve Sony revealing major first and third-party exclusives for its platform. The thing is, this appears to be happening just without a central platform.

A Lot of Game Announcements Without a PlayStation Showcase

There have been some major announcements already, all of which make more sense for a PlayStation Showcase than necessarily an individual reveal. For example, Square Enix randomly revealed a Final Fantasy 16 trailer today, while Hideo Kojima has been teasing Elle Fanning's role in an upcoming game. That game is believed to be Death Stranding 2, and of course, both of these titles are PlayStation console exclusives. The Silent Hill Transmission revealed several new entries for the franchise, which include a timed console exclusive to PS5 (though also launching on PC). The fact that these are all major PlayStation announcements cannot be ignored.

Resident Evil is also hosting a showcase soon, and while that brand is not exclusive to Sony's platforms, it's clear Capcom and Sony have worked closely together before. Resident Evil 4 Remake was revealed at a State of Play after all. There's so much it's hard not to connect the dots, but there's as much speculative content right now as there is concrete evidence (if entirely circumstantial). For example, a recent document leaked containing several unannounced PlayStation games, including a remake/remaster treatment for Horizon Zero Dawn.

Even with all of this happening, Sony itself recently posted a tweet teasing a potential Bloodborne announcement. It could have been an innocent, if random post, but many fans hope not. The tweet was deleted shortly after, but that could mean any number of things. And it's hard not to see this post in the context of all these announcements.

At the end of the day, Final Fantasy 16, Death Stranding 2, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Bloodborne all getting announcements (or potentially, in some cases) for PlayStation but not at a Showcase is odd. Altogether, with any other announcements, it would have been an event to remember. Separated, they seem conspicuous if nothing else.

A PlayStation Showcase has not been announced.
