With the PlayStation 5 having such a successful launch and continuing to sell out everywhere as soon as it becomes available, it makes sense that Sony would find a way to reward those that were part of the console’s launch team. As it turns out, though, the reward is one that will make any PS5 owner jealous.

One of the greatest aspects of the PlayStation 5 is the DualSense controller, with key features such as its adaptive triggers and haptic feedback making it a major improvement over the DualShock and other console’s controllers. However, while reception to the DualSense has been unanimously positive in terms of its functionality and comfort, many players have been waiting patiently for the opportunity to make their PS5 controllers look more unique.

With only the default Black and White variant of the DualSense currently available through official means, a custom PS5 controller given to members of the console’s launch team is even more attractive and special. Shown off in a photo posted by PlayStation product design manager Joey Rabbitt, the luxurious design sees the black faceplate of the PlayStation 5 swapped out with a shiny, golden design, with the rest of the controller keeping its white color. With “PS5 launch team” imprinted on the left handle of the controller, the special DualSense truly stands out.

While this version will likely remain exclusive to the team behind the PlayStation 5’s launch, it will be interesting to see if other employees of PlayStation are given special controllers in the future. From the PlayStation Studios developers to those behind the platform’s trophy system, there is no shortage of special designs that could be given out to those at the company. Regardless, the gold accents on this launch team controller make it stand out clearly when compared to the original, and seeing this great design will likely make PS5 users even more desperate to customize their PS5 controllers and consoles.

If players cannot wait for Sony to release official customization options that match the quality of this exclusive DualSense, there are a few third-party options available. Skin company Decor Evolve, for example, recently released several different faceplate colors for the PS5’s controller. With a gold option similar to the one seen in the limited-edition launch team design available online now, players can recreate the special controller if they act fast. Based on Sony’s stance against unofficial PS5 products, the Decor Evolve skins may not be purchasable for long.

Even with a similar custom faceplate available online, though, the employee-only controllers are a cool gesture from Sony and a great way for the PS5 launch team to display their achievements. While they are unlikely to stop the DualSense’s watch-related issues, they are still quite the sight to behold.
