On June 13, 2022, Sony shall be starting a new era for its subscription services. PS Now and PS Plus will be combined to create a tiered system named after the latter. Depending on a subscriber's chosen tier, they shall gain access to a range of games. For those who pick PS Plus Premium, their library will include a select group of PS5, PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP titles.

So far, Sony has announced roughly 30 PlayStation 3 games for PS Plus Premium's launch, a number that could inflate before June 13. Naturally, this number should expand with each passing month, especially since PS Now has far more PS3 games than just the ones that have been announced for the new subscription. Here are a few of the best PS3 games that Sony needs to add to PS Plus Premium.

To be considered, a game must have been at least co-published by Sony. These titles are more realistic candidates than third-party releases.

Resistance: Fall Of Man

Like PS Now before it, Resistance 3 is the only entry in the franchise confirmed to be coming to PS Plus Premium. For some reason, Resistance: Fall of Man and its immediate sequel have been ignored, which is a shame as both of these releases have very good single-player campaigns. In fact, Fall of Man is arguably the best entry in the series from a narrative perspective.

Beyond simply being a quality FPS, Resistance: Fall of Man was an important launch title for the PS3, and some might argue it was the only game worth owning from the console's introductory line-up. Fall of Man's gameplay has also aged well enough to not hamper someone's enjoyment of the campaign too much; it is not Halo, but it does not need to be.

Folklore

An underappreciated JRPG, Folklore has a unique setting, intriguing concepts, and cool visuals. Split into two protagonists, players will spend their time either in an Irish village or the nightmarish but also beautiful Netherworld. While in the latter, players can capture and use creatures in real-time battles.

Folklore has pacing issues and a bit too much backtracking, but the JRPG's gameplay, art style, and story are, at the very least, interesting. The game can be difficult to come by in this day and age, something that could be rectified with PS Plus Premium.

Fat Princess

Fat Princess is a bizarre but delightful franchise, one that has spawned two widely different games. The 2009 original is predominantly a multiplayer experience that finds two teams conducting simultaneous attempts to rescue their captive princesses. It is a surprisingly complex game that includes things like classes, abilities, upgrades, and a variety of weapons.

There are not all that many projects like Fat Princess, and while the license might not be an especially huge property in Sony's catalog, it is one that deserves more love.

Heavy Rain

Although not one of the games confirmed to be launching with PS Plus Premium, Heavy Rain is included in PS Now, which probably does not hurt the title's chances of making the cut for the new service. Quantic Dream's brand of interactive games is an acquired taste, and Heavy Rain is a bit rough around the edges when compared to the studio's later works such as Detroit: Become Human.

That said, the investigation into the Origami Killer is still riveting, and it comes with plenty of twists and choices that greatly alter the narrative's direction. Clunky moments aside, Heavy Rain is pretty good.

Ridge Racer 7

Published by Sony in Europe, Ridge Racer 7 is the last traditional console entry in the franchise, and it was one of the better games to be released close to the PS3's debut. An arcade racer that prioritizes drifting, this game delivers speed, great controls, and a decent array of single-player options. The multiplayer was also solid for the time.

Ultimately, Bandai Namco will have the final say on whether Ridge Racer 7 gets to be taken out for another spin. Considering this one beloved license completely missed out on the PS4 era, making this entry accessible through a service like PS Plus Premium could help bring some attention to Ridge Racer.

All Killzone Games

Surprisingly, none of the Killzone games have been confirmed for the new PS Plus, not even the PS4's Shadow Fall. Even if it failed to become Sony's answer to Halo, the series still enjoyed a great run in the spotlight, particularly during the PS3 era. Killzone 2 is rightfully considered to be one of the shooters of the late 2000s, and its sequel is almost as brilliant.

Guerrilla Games has moved on to bigger and better things, and it seems unlikely the studio will be revisiting this old property. Nevertheless, Killzone left quite a mark on the PlayStation brand and deserves better.

Wipeout HD & Fury

Ideally, the PS4's Wipeout Omega Collection should be added to PS Plus since it contains both Wipeout HD and Wipeout 2048. If for some reason that compilation package is not an option, then Sony should at least highlight Wipeout HD and its Fury expansion. Absolutely stuffed with content, this package is nothing short of fantastic.

Despite delivering remastered versions of PSP games, Wipeout HD has ridiculously great graphics for its era. The gameplay is also pretty good, although Wipeout 2048 is superior in this area.

Heavenly Sword

Heavenly Sword might not have been the game-changer that Sony wanted it to be, however, it is by no means average. Ninja Theory crafted a game with gorgeous graphics, complex combat, and a reasonably entertaining storyline.

At this point, a sequel is likely never going to happen, so the best fans can hope for is that the PS3 original is accessible to as wide of an audience as possible. PS Plus Premium is the perfect service to ensure that remains the case.
