Shortly after Microsoft revealed the free Games with Gold games coming to Xbox Live subscribers in October, Sony has announced the PlayStation Plus lineup for next month as well. As far as PlayStation Plus goes, October 2017 looks to be especially exciting for PlayStation gamers, as it is headlined by the blockbuster game Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain for PS4.

On PS4, Metal Gear Solid 5 is joined by Amnesia: Collection, which should give horror enthusiasts something spooky to play on Halloween. For the uninitiated, Amnesia: Collection brings together the critically-acclaimed horror games Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, along with all the DLC.

PlayStation 4 owners have quite the month to look forward to, but there are games coming to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita as well. The PS3 and PS Vita PS Plus lineups for next month aren't quite as exciting, consisting of Monster Jam Battlegrounds and Hustle Kings for PS3, and Hue and Sky Force Anniversary for PS Vita.

As usual, PS4 owners will end up getting the most out of their PlayStation Plus subscription in October. Besides receiving Metal Gear Solid 5 and Amnesia: Collection for free, they will also be able to get their hands on Hue and Sky Force Anniversary, thanks to Sony's cross-buy promotion. Sky Force Anniversary, by the way, will also be available for PS Plus subscribers on PS3.

Besides free games, PlayStation Plus subscribers have even more to look forward to in October, including special discounts and early access to some games. As far as discounts go, the PlayStation Store will be updated on October 10th to include wide-ranging discounts for PlayStation VR titles to celebrate the hardware's one year anniversary. PlayStation Plus subscribers will also be able to get their hands on the closed beta for Hand of the Gods beginning October 17th.

In the meantime, PlayStation gamers still have some time to download September's PS Plus offerings. This includes the open world superhero game Infamous: Second Son from Sucker Punch Productions.

The PlayStation Plus games for October 2017 become available next month.
