September is ending, so Sony is back at it again with another month of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers. October brings Resident Evil and Transformers.

October is arriving in just three days, which means that Sony is announcing next month's PlayStation Plus line-up. Six new games will be added to the extensive PlayStation Plus library, with access unlocked on the first Tuesday of the month - October 4 in this case. Sony claims there's a bit of a Halloween spin on this month's games, though only one title seems to be horror in nature. Still, for PlayStation 4 players this one horror game should be more than enough to please.

As usual, there are two titles for each of Sony's three main platforms: the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. Unusually, there are no cross-platform titles, meaning no PS Vita or PS3 games will also be available on PS4. The two PS4 games this month will hopefully make up for that omission.

Here's the list of six free games which will be unlocked with October's round of PlayStation Plus:

  • Resident Evil (PS4)
  • Transformers: Devastation (PS4)
  • Mad Riders (PS3)
  • From Dust (PS3)
  • Code: Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~ (PS Vita)
  • Actual Sunlight (PS Vita)

Survival horror, third-person action, off-road racing, god game, visual novel, and interactive story - October's PlayStation Plus line-up is demonstratively diverse, which will hopefully for some prove worth the recent PlayStation Plus price increase.

On PlayStation 4, players will soon unlock Resident Evil and Transformers: Devastation. Resident Evil is an HD Remaster of the original survival horror game, or at least its GameCube-era revamp, which has once again been updated for PlayStation 4. Transformers: Devastation may not have Resident Evil's brand power, but the fast-paced action game that could only have been made by Platinum Games may be October's sleeper highlight title.

Mad Riders on PlayStation 3 is this month's racing game inclusion. The game is an arcade-style off-road racer, the kind which has huge out of this world maps with big jumps, speed boosts, an over the top race announcer, and heavy rock music blaring all the time. Another great sleeper title for October is From Dust from Ubisoft. A precursor of sorts to the experimental development projects the developer is doing now with Grow Home and Child of LightFrom Dust is a god game that allows players to shape the world with real-time physics.

It's another month of PS Vita titles that may not appeal to the masses, but will scratch certain niche gamers' itches wonderfully. Code: Realize is a well-received anime visual novel that should stir some emotions up in even the most reticent of players, while Actual Sunlight is another story-focused, interactive experience that should bring out players' tears. If anyone with a Vita and PlayStation Plus passes Actual Sunlight by, they'll be the worse for it.

PlayStation Plus's October line-up goes live on October 4 for subscribers. Make sure to pick up September's games, including Journey and Lords of the Fallen, before they disappear.
