Last year, Sony held an event known as the PlayStation Player Celebration, giving its fans rewards for communally amassing hours of playtime and trophies. Over the course of the event, players grabbed themselves a host of fun digital goodies, including two unique PS4 themes and a host of exclusive avatars.

Luckily for those who missed it last year, the event makes its grand return tomorrow, with PlayStation Player Celebration slated to offer three weeks of fun rewards. Players who want to take part in the event have to sign up via the PlayStation website, enabling their account to be linked with the contest.

As for what to expect from the Player Celebration, the crux is simple. Each week offers players a lineup of digital goodies that can only be unlocked if the community bands together, with Sony posting "Trophies Earned" and "Games Played" meters that must be filled collectively. Every game that's played for an hour adds 1 notch to the Games Played meter, while every game played with friends for an hour adds two notches. Meanwhile, players can add a maximum of 6 unlocked trophies to the Trophies Earned meter every day. Every week will task players with hitting a goal for each meter, with the community having to fill both to unlock their rewards.

As for what these rewards will be, PlayStation has several themes and avatars to give away. If players manage to amass 2.4 million games played and 7.2 million trophies earned this week, they get a PSN-themed avatar and dynamic theme for the PS4. They can also hit a stretch goal of 3 million games played and 8.8 million trophies earned to unlock three additional avatars, with the trio including Astro Bot and Returnal's Selene Vassoss. Next week, players can earn even more avatars, including ones of Sackboy, Ghost of Tsushima's Jin Sakai, Ellie from The Last of Us 2, and Horizon Zero Dawn's Aloy.

The final week offers a new dynamic PS4 theme featuring a mash-up of Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon: Forbidden West, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and God of War, as well as another batch of avatars, including Kratos and Atreus. The event's first stage starts tomorrow and concludes on May 25, so eager players should make sure they're signed up and ready to contribute when it goes live. They'll definitely have a few new games to plug time into when amassing hours and trophies, including the recently released Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and Resident Evil Village, which dropped earlier this month.

The PlayStation Player Celebration kicks off on May 18.
