Trophy hunting has and always will be a part of gaming. So much so, countless communities dedicate themselves to the art of trophy hunting as well as helping their fellow gamers out with the same goal.
And while most trophies these days are easy enough with a bit of skill, luck, and determination, some are impossible to net no matter how skilled you are. Most of which are unfortunately due to server shutdowns or unpatched glitches. Nothing's worse than progressing through a trophy list only for one or more trophies to not unlock, ruining your whole progress. Trophy hunters should avoid aiming for the platinum trophy in these games at all costs.
10 Evolve
The release of Evolve isn’t exactly a success story as it released to less than optimal reviews due to its many flaws which prompted the studio to convert the game to a free-to-play model. However, that didn’t last long, as the developers abandoned the title all together shortly after that.
Due to this, the online mode trophies, specifically the "Instant Artist" trophy, have been rendered unattainable which in turn leaves the platinum trophy impossible to earn. This is unfortunate as this specific trophy only asks the player to create a badge. Simple, yet impossible at the same time.
9 Rock Band 3
Rock Band is a series of amazing games beloved by many fans and its third installment, Rock Band 3, was no slouch either. It had multiple great songs and gameplay so engaging you could put hours and hours into.
It’s just too bad that hardcore fans are now unable to get the full experience by earning that sweet platinum. This is due to the expiration of licensees for some songs, which in turn, prevents players from completing those songs and earning the trophy, “Live Free, or Die”. Though players lucky enough to still have the game and those songs installed, still have a chance to net it.
8 Disney Infinity 3.0
Disney Infinity 3.0 was among one the popular games implementing the Toys-to-Life system in videogames, where players bought tiny figurines that will unlock their favorite character of a Disney franchise in-game.
Sadly, in 2016 support for this system ended as the developers responsible for the game, Avalanche Software got shut down which as anyone could guess, halted support for the game as well as its online features and trophies, rendering the platinum impossible to attain.
7 Lost Planet 2
Lost Planet 2 is a game that released mid-2010 and is notably known for how brutally difficult it is to achieve a hundred percent completion. This is mainly due to its many difficult in-game titles players will need to earn to rank up and fill up their trophy list.
While a lot of these can be difficult, the one that takes the cake is the achievement whereby a player will have to get number one placement on the online leaderboard, in order to unlock. What makes this a difficult feat is how hackers have currently taken over and sit at the top of the leaderboard which makes a tedious job of trophy hunting an impossible one.
6 NBA Elite 11
NBA Elite 11 is a complicated game with a complicated background. Mostly due to the rocky development the game had. Right before release, EA was forced to cancel the game due to its many glitches and bugs.
However, a few select people were able to get their hands on a copy which surprisingly had all trophies included. It’s just too bad that it also included online trophies that were impossible to get, as it’s a canceled game. Which makes aiming for the platinum useless.
5 Duck Game
Duck Game, as the name suggests, is a game about ducks. More specifically, a 2D shooter and platforming game where ducks battle it out till a winner is determined. It initially launched on the Ouya in 2014 (that’s right the Ouya) but eventually got a PS4 port in 2017 and later a Nintendo port in 2019.
The problem lies with the PS4 port which has a single trophy titled the “Jukebox Hero”, which asks players to hatch eight eggs in-game. As this trophy is bugged, it prevents any and all players from attaining the Platinum trophy for the game.
4 Ghostbusters: The Video Game
One of the older games on this list, Ghostbusters: The Video Game is an action-adventure game released in 2009 and is a tie-in to the movie it's based off. The game was released on both the PlayStation 2 and 3.
Sadly, trophy hunters will be left disappointed if they try to get the platinum today on the PS3 version, as the game is yet another victim of server shutdown. Therefore, its 10 online trophies are forever unattainable. Luckily though, Ghostbusters: The Video Game has been remastered for the PS4 giving devoted fans another shot to earn that plat.
3 Kerbal Space Program
Kerbal Space Program is a surprisingly in-depth space exploration game whereby players direct a space program overseen by a bunch of green aliens called kerbals. The game is especially lengthy for players aiming to get the platinum trophy. Unfortunately, that is an impossible task as a single bronze trophy in the game called "The View From Up Here" is bugged and won't unlock no matter what.
This is a shame as all players have to do is completing a fly-by of Kerbin, the home planet for the Kerbals. However, similar to the last entry on this list, the Enhanced Edition of the game was released on PS4 in 2018 where players can resume hunting trophies bug-free.
2 Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Anyone reading this will probably know how popular Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was in its heyday. So much so that it spawned many fans aiming for the platinum trophy.
Unfortunately, any player who aims for it now will be left disappointed and probably angry as while the online servers are still up, the “Big Leagues” trophy is impossible to get since the League Play mode was turned off in Black Ops 2. To get this trophy, players had to win five multiplayer League Play games after being placed in a division. A daunting task but a possible one, until it wasn’t.
1 Grand Theft Auto V (PS3 Version)
Grand Theft Auto V is a massively popular and successful game a lot of people still play today. It’s also a game that most would remember launching first on the PS3 and Xbox 360 before the current-gen consoles.
However, players still enjoying the game on last-gen consoles are at a distinct disadvantage trophy-wise, as a single trophy stands in the way of a platinum yet again. The “Runs Like the Wind” trophy required players to survive with a bounty on their head in GTA Online. With the Bounties mode disabled in GTA Online, this leads to another impossible platinum.
