PlayStation Now Will Soon Allow PS4 Game Streaming

Although PlayStation Now saw the end of an era this year through its discontinuation for PS3 and PS Vita, the streaming service will instead be seeing a new lease of life through a much-wanted new feature. Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Now will soon allow PS4 game streaming to both PS4 and PC.

The news was revealed by the company in a new post on the PlayStation Blog, along with an explanation of what subscribers can expect to get. As well as the PS3 games currently available for the service, PS4 games will be up for streaming, with Sony planning to start off a private beta test for PS4 game support within the next few weeks. The company also warns current PlayStation Now subscribers to keep an eye on their emails in case they receive an invitation to take part.

At the moment, Sony is not giving an exact date on when the test will take place, when the full service will kick in (aside from at some point in 2017), or exactly which games will be available as the initial PS4 library. However, it has confirmed that PS4 game streaming will be accessible to both PS4 and Windows PC, and that the PS4 cloud save functionality will still be available.

"We're excited to announce that PS Now’s catalog is set to grow even further, as we’ll be expanding to include a new platform: PlayStation 4 games," said Brian Dunn, Senior Marketing Manager at PlayStation Now. "All of the games in the service, including PS4 games, will be included with a single PS Now subscription. We'll share more information as we get closer to launch, so stay tuned."

At the moment, PlayStation Now offers up a library of 483 PS3 games for subscribers to enjoy, including recent highly anticipated releases such as Red Dead Redemption. That said, no doubt users will appreciate having PS4 games added to the available roster, and so this update cannot come quick enough.

However, PlayStation Now will soon be up against some stiff opposition from its Xbox rival, through the introduction of the Xbox Game Pass. This subscription service will allow Xbox users access to over 100 Xbox One and Xbox 360 games at the cost of $9.99 a month. Hopefully, both the improved PlayStation Now service and the newly-formed Xbox Game Pass will provide excellent services to Sony and Microsoft users respectively.
