The name says it all, folks. Launching a new platform or peripheral isn't as simple as putting product in boxes, and keeping shelves stocked. To get an audience to believe that what you're offering is worth their hard-earned money, you've got to show them an experience they simply have to have.

With the impending release of PlayStation Move Heroes, Sony Computer Entertainment is betting that bringing some of the system's greatest and most recognizable characters together in one title will be the last incentive fans need to pick up their own Move. After looking at these first screenshots, they might be onto something.

For fans of the PlayStation 2, It's a safe bet that Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Ratchet & Clank have become synonymous with platforming and third-person action games. All three series have enjoyed several installments, and although the original development teams are not directly involved with the production, Nihilistic Software has plenty of background to draw from.

To give early adopters of the Move a game to look forward to next year, and to convince fence-sitters to make the investment, Sony has released a brand new set of screenshots. If you enjoyed any of the above franchises, you may find something to like in the images below:

There's no shortage of nostalgia here, with every pair of characters making an appearance. The addition of co-op means that playing through the game with a friend will let you step into the shoes of each famous duo: Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Sly & Bentley- what more could a PS2 fan ask for?

It's surprising to see just how well the game worlds of the three titles mesh together, so Nihilistic Software seems to be off to a good start. It doesn't take a next-gen developer to see how ray guns and blasters offer plenty of opportunities to fulfill your waggling needs, which is probably the next best thing to a lightsaber.

Even though the studio hasn't had their share of blockbuster developments so far, Sony is handing them the reins to more than one iconic franchise, so the stakes are high. If the end product retains even a small amount of the magic that made these games into hits, PlayStation Move Heroes might just be a must-have.

The judgment will have to wait until the game can be played to see if the motion control brings something new to the game mechanics, or is merely a business decision. In a perfect world, the developers of all three franchises would be brought together to give their fans a brand new experience with a brand new type of controller. Since Insomniac Games is a little busy with Resistance 3, Sucker Punch is somewhat occupied with inFamous 2, and Naughty Dog is apparently already working on Uncharted 3, it just isn't going to happen.

The success that all three studios went on to enjoy is a sign of just how much potential was shown in the early installments of these three series, so we can only hope that PlayStation Move Heroes is more than just a marketing tool. On the bright side, fans of Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank have Sly 4 and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One to look forward to some time in the future.

If these screens are just the beginning, then the PlayStation Move may become a lot more enticing when PlayStation Move Heroes is released some time in 2011.
