PlayStation Home was pretty barren when it first launched, with only a handful of spaces for gamers to check out. However over the years Sony has been updating the service, bringing Home-exclusive games to draw people in. Now, three newly announced titles are coming to the service and they'll all be free to play!
The first of the three games is Cutthroats: Battle for Black Powder Cove, which has 24 players battle aboard pirate ships, attempting to take down their opponents' vessel. Users can purchase coins in order to upgrade their ship's defenses, though we hope this doesn't lead to extremely lopsided battles. It'd be a shame if those who pay more perform better, so hopefully the developer is taking a page out DUST 514 developer CCP's book and making the game "free to play" not "pay to win." Cutthroats: Battle for Black Powder Cove is out on Home now.
In the Spring, Home users can try out a third person shooter titled No Man's Land. The game is a cover based shooter, that Sony says has players using "a grid interface to sprint from cover to cover, popping up to take out opponents at every turn." It sounds very interesting, and even has multiplayer modes, including Team Deathmatch and the game's own spin on Capture the Flag.
There's even something for those who dislike shooters, in a fantasy RPG called Mercia. The way the game is described, it sounds very much like a traditional dungeon crawler, but does bring a first for Home: zero load times. It's a common joke that players have to pass through a plethora of loading screens in order to access anything in Home, and Mercia will rectify this with persistent streaming, giving players access to the game's content in an instant. Mercia is set to launch this summer, though like No Man's Land, there is no confirmed release date.

Players can access all of these games through a new district in Home, the Adventure District. The new locale has its own places to explore, or you could just go there and play Cutthroats: Battle for Black Powder Cove now.
Home's come a long way since its inception, and even as someone who hasn't used the service in a while, titles like No Man's Land are just too tempting to resist. If Sony continues to expand Home in these ways, maybe it'll become enough of a success for them to bring it over to the PlayStation 4, or 'Orbis', as it prefers to be called. Yes, the PS4 is sentient.
