Sony has made a big announcement today involving their "PlayStation Hits" lineup. Seven new games will be dropping into Sony's exclusive collection of top performing titles, and as a result their prices will also be dropping on the PSN and at a number of physical retailers to $19.99.

The new entries include Far Cry 4, Rayman Legends, and 2018's God of War, the latter obviously being the highest profile game within the collection. Although, Far Cry 4 is still the most notable of the whopping four Ubisoft games to join the PlayStation Hits party including the aforementioned Rayman Legends, Watch Dogs, and The Crew.

The price drop for the games joining the collection begins on October 4th as the seven new titles join a collection that already boasts excellent exclusives such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Persona 5, as well as wider available releases like Resident Evil VII. Some of the games being added to the list, like Gran Turismo Sport and Uncharted: Lost Legacy, might not perk up fan excitement as much as God of War, but every hit finding itself in the collection was well worth their $60 price point upon release and is beyond worth the $19.99 price drop they'll be sitting at in a weeks time. Uncharted: Lost Legacy in particular is a notable addition due to it joining the rest of the Uncharted franchise in the Hits collection.

While this may be an attempt for Sony to garner more positive press after their successful State of Play last weekend, these new additions to the PlayStation Hits lineup are exciting news to any gamers looking to pick up some of the top games on the PS4 for a more affordable price. These discounts on some of the hottest games of this console generation along with the monthly free game through PlayStation Plus certainly makes the PS4 one of the more affordable places to play. Now, while a number of these games have been out for years, with sequels already available, making the price drops on the older titles understandable, God of War stands out as the odd man out. It's easy to speculate that this might be an attempt to drum up anticipation for the series with a sequel on the way.

No information has been released about God of War's sequel, and if there was information to share, it's hard to believe that there were no announcements made earlier this year, between E3, PAX East, and the PlayStation State of play. However, if Santa Monica Studios and Sony were looking to get attention for their franchise, a price drop would be a good way to raise excitement, like how Naughty Dog's Last of Us: Remastered has landed on the list of free PS Plus games for October in connection with last weeks announcements for Last of Us Part II.
