Though every game has its own approach to a Trophy list, there are a few patterns that have established themselves over the years. Story-related Trophies for seeing certain moments play out, achievements for gathering collectibles, and objectives tied to random gameplay tasks or difficulty levels are all things that have become quite common. Funny PlayStation Trophies are another trend that many will have surely noticed.

PlayStation fans looking to entertain themselves with some punny Trophy names or goofy tasks will usually be able to find at least one comedic Trophies on each list they come across. January 2023’s games were no different in this regard, as the Essential PlayStation Plus titles and new releases offered a couple achievements that could put a smile on the face of those who earned them.

Funniest Trophies in January 2023’s Essential PS Plus Games

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order ATST

Though it was once drowned in criticism, Fallout 76 has steadily improved in the years since it released, and many have taken to playing the game regularly. For those that have yet to dive into Appalachia, they will be glad to see that Fallout’s humor is on display with some Trophy names. “LITerally” unlocks for engaging with literature in the form of magazines, while “Schwag” serves as a funny achievement for snagging 10 bobbleheads. “Happy C.A.M.P.er” is a fun play on the game’s C.A.M.P. system.

For fans of indie titles, the follow-up to the excellent Axiom Verge has an entertaining Trophy to go for. Standing out clearly on the list is “Super Axiom Verge 2 Turbo DX Plus,” with the laughably long name justified since players have to perform Indra’s Secret Spinning Typhoon Crane Leg Kick. “Mostly Invincible” is another goodie, as it references how players automatically die once in the game, making it impossible to be truly invincible.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order may not have any truly difficult Trophies to unlock, but it does have its share of entertaining ones. For instance, “Cal Got Your Tongue?” is a great way to use the name of the game’s protagonist Cal Kestis, with players unlocking the Trophy by chopping off an Oggdo’s tongue. “Happy Go Wookie” is a fun name for a story-related task, as is “For a More Civilized Age,” which references a much-memed line from the films and fittingly unlocks after Cal crafts a lightsaber.

Funniest Trophies in January 2023’s New Releases

SpongeBob Cosmic Shake

Though a game as terrifying as Dead Space is not somewhere players would expect to find funny Trophies, “Z-Baller” tasking players with playing some basketball and the series’ running joke of “There’s Always Peng!” absolutely qualify. Though the other Trophies on the list suit the horror theme, these two were a nice moment of levity during Isaac’s harrowing journey. As for Forspoken, another big release in January 2023 that was not met with the same praise as Dead Space, most of the Trophies players can collect are straightforward. "Cat Person" is arguably the most entertaining, though, as it serves as a nod to Frey's love for felines and is acquired when finding every Familiar.

Releasing right at the end of January was SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, and given the source material, it is no surprise that some funny Trophies were included. “SpongeLock HolmesPants” is a very obvious nod to the work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and unlocks for finding every secret in all the levels. “Wanna See Me Do It Again?” is a direct reference to a popular line from the cartoon series, and unlocks when finishing the game. For PlayStation fans searching for some family friendly fun and a simple Trophy hunt, the new SpongeBob game could be a perfect option.
