Sony has been testing free game trials on the PlayStation 4 and 5 in October and now a new, third title has been added to the roster of games in the service. Biomutant is available for download as a timed free trial for PS4 and PS5 owners starting today in the UK and Canada.

Previously, the only free trials games were Death Stranding: Director's Cut and Sackboy: A Big Adventure, but Biomutant seems to be a great addition as the game received a mixed reception when it launched. Now that it can be tried for free in select countries, the game's audience could potentially grow from those sampling the title.

This addition is also good news for those hoping that free game trials might become a more established part of Sony's business model because it shows that the company is willing to try out more games following the start of the testing last week. Because Biomutant will be available in both the UK and Canada, it shows that Sony is also willing to branch out in terms of which countries are able to try the game trials.

Like Death Stranding: Director's Cut and Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Biomutant will only be available as a free trial until October 28, so those looking to see what it's all about without needing to purchase it, only have a few weeks to play the game. It's also important to note that players only have five hours with Biomutant during the trial and that the five hours begin as soon as the game starts downloading.

This essentially means that the game can only be played in a single sitting before kicking the player out and requesting a purchase. While that might be enough time for some to know if they want to buy the game, those with slower internet connections that struggle to download the large file sizes of modern titles might not be able to play the game for long enough to truly feel like they've gotten a good sample.

As the game trial service is still in its early days, hopefully, Sony can iron out some of those issues that are starting to crop up. Either way, the idea of video game trials seems like it could do a lot of good to avoid the problems that many PlayStation owners have with Sony's refund policy. This could get ahead of the next major title to have a less than stellar launch causing problems with refunds by simply letting players try out the game and decide from there whether they want to make a purchase.

Biomutant is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
