One of the most successful game consoles yet created, the PlayStation 4 was a brilliant return to form for Sony after its struggles with the PS3. With a focus on games, easy to develop for architecture, and a palatable entry price, the PlayStation 4 has become the second best-selling home game console of all time, behind only the PlayStation 2.

After three generations of running essentially the same controller design, Sony finally evolved its iconic DualShock controller into something more modern. By fixing longstanding issues like slippery, imprecise thumbsticks and convex triggers alongside innovations like a lightbar and touchpad, Sony turned the DualShock 4 into what some fans may consider the perfect controller.

The PlayStation community certainly is a passionate bunch, boldly celebrating its Japanese-produced PlayStation consoles in many different ways. Reddit user manoart has shared a remarkably detailed cross-stitching of the much-beloved DualShock 4. The cross-stitching creates a cutesy pixel art-like appearance, with manoart’s piece impressively recreating the DualShock 4’s glowing lightbar, concave joysticks, and symbolic face buttons in an impressive fashion against a striking pink background.

The post has been a hit with the Reddit PS4 community, earning over three thousand upvotes as of writing. Other users are commending manoart on their clearly apparent talent and requesting the cross-stitch pattern for their own use.

While the DualShock 4 controller certainly had its flaws, like sub-par battery life as a result of its many features, it’s hard to argue against its clear improvements versus the PlayStation 3’s Sixaxis or DualShock 3 gamepads. The PlayStation 5 controller, the DualSense, takes the DualShock 4 design and refines it even further, adding impressive dynamic triggers, a built-in microphone, and haptic feedback to give players more feedback while playing games, although it isn’t without its own flaws, either. The DualSense's added features limit its battery life and the new controller has been known to have problems with joysticks drifting over time.

Of course, the ideal controller will vary from player to player. While some players prefer the DualSense’s multitude of features, others may gravitate towards the relative simplicity and offset analog design of the Xbox Wireless Controller. Still, there is something about the DualShock 4’s balancing of traditional gamepad design and innovative attributes that holds a special place in the hearts of PlayStation fans like manoart.
