Last week, Sony announced the PlayStation Classic, a mini console similar to the NES and SNES Classics that will give players the chance to play 20 pre-loaded PS1 games. While the announcement of the PlayStation Classic has been met with some fanfare (enough for it to become sold out a multiple retailers), the mini console has also been criticized for various reasons.

One reason why the PlayStation Classic has been criticized since its announcement is due to a lack of an AC adapter. Some may recall that the New Nintendo 3DS XL didn't come with an AC adapter either, and that decision was met with quite a bit of backlash from fans. Luckily, PlayStation Classic owners will be able to plug in the system using standard smartphone USB adapters. Otherwise, the adapter will be sold separately from the $99.99 bundle that includes the actual PlayStation Classic itself.

The second reason why the PlayStation Classic has been criticized by fans is due to the controllers it's coming with. PlayStation Classic comes bundled with two controllers, but they are original PlayStation controllers - the ones without analog sticks. It's possible that none of the games Sony plans on including with the system will use analog controls in any significant way, but if nothing else, their exclusion means some games simply have no chance of being included with the device.

As some may recall, there were some PS1 games that required a controller with analog sticks, so Sony sticking with the original PS1 controller design limits the PlayStation Classic's full potential. So far, none of the PlayStation Classic games that have been announced really use the analog sticks, but Sony's decision will still be disappointing for some players.

Something else that may have disappointed fans is Sony's decision to only announce five of the games that will be in the PlayStation Classic. We know that there will be 20 games total by the time the console actually releases in December, but it's a guessing game as to what's included until then.

While there are aspects of the PlayStation Classic that some may be disappointed by, others may still be excited to play some old-school PlayStation 1 games. Plus, if the PlayStation Classic sells well, Sony may be convinced to release an updated version of the console in the future, one that could potentially come with analog sticks and an AC adapter.
