Sony has released an update for the PlayStation App that will improve its search function, which has been long requested by users. The PlayStation App was announced at Tokyo Game Show 2013 to serve as a companion app for Sony’s consoles. Since November 2013, this mobile application has been providing access to PlayStation Network community features, showing users’ friends, invitations, and trophies. The PlayStation App also lets users share screenshots taken on their PS5 consoles.

On top of these social tools, the app included a search feature to find games and add-ons in the PlayStation Store. However, this function was not optimal and suggested related content instead of the searched result, leading to the frustration of many players. Many people have complained about the PlayStation App's search feature, and Sony has apparently listened to player feedback and is working to enhance the experience of using the PlayStation App.

PlayStation App update version 22.10.0 upgrades its search function, which will allow players who search for a game to more easily find it. Typing the name of a game will now show a direct link to its dedicated PlayStation Store page instead of suggesting related content like add-ons or bundles or games with similar names. The PlayStation Network community features may also benefit from this feature, as finding users through the search function sometimes brought up odd results.

This latest update to the PlayStation App also introduced a new Light Mode, enhancing the visibility of the PlayStation App in daylight. The Light Mode turns the app’s appearance to a light background with dark buttons, increasing the contrast when outside luminosity is high. However, all PlayStation App users won’t be able to turn on this Light Mode, as it is only available on Android 10 or later.

Sony has been publishing regular updates to the PlayStation App, introducing several new features requested by users. On top of finding new games and keeping up with the latest activity from friends, users can launch games remotely, manage their storage, create party groups, and share PlayStation 5 game captures.

Besides this new PlayStation App update, Sony recently revealed the PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge controller, an improved version of the console’s default controller. The DualSense Edge features changeable stick caps, replaceable stick modules, customizable controls, and new back buttons to enhance players’ experience on the PlayStation 5. The DualSense Edge wireless controller will launch globally on January 26, 2023.
