Several days ago, a mysterious patent surfaced online for what seems to be a dev kit for the upcoming PlayStation 5. While no official confirmation has been made on Sony's part, game developer Matthew Stott, who appears to work for Codemasters, revealed that the PS5 patent is real and they have the exact dev kit in their office.

It is somewhat difficult to imagine what the PS5 dev kit could look like based on the patent's diagram alone. Luckily, the website LetsGoDigital somehow managed to create a series of 3D renderings of the patent, showing what the dev kit would look like if it was actually real.

The rendered images show a massive console surrounded by fans that it almost looks like something out of a sci-fi film. Of course, it is worth remembering that this is a possible dev kit for the PS5 and not the consumer version. Given that developers are probably running this all day it makes sense for the console to have that many fans to prevent it from overheating.

While it is nice to see what the PS5's dev kit looks like, the appearance of the console's consumer version is what's important to PlayStation fans. Of course, if the images rendered from the patent is really what the dev kit looks like, then there is a small possibility that the actual console would take a similar design. However, if Sony does go this route, then the PS5 would be a huge departure from its predecessors that favored a sleek, minimalistic look.

As of the moment, there is still no word from Sony on when it is planning to hold the highly-anticipated in-depth reveal of the PS5, given that the company was a no-show at E3 2019. While Sony did share some of the console's upcoming features and hardware specifications, there is still a lot we don't know about the PS4's successor.

Last week, internet leaks claimed that the PS5's reveal date will happen on February 12, 2020. According to the leak, this will be the date Sony will host the PlayStation Meeting 2020, where it will showcase the future of the PlayStation brand to the entire gaming community. Of course, while random internet users are hardly a source of reliable news, stranger things have happened.
