New PUBG Sanhok Map is Live

It's been just over two month since fans of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds had their first chance to test out the "Savage" map, now officially known as as "Sanhok." The completed version of this new island map rolled out for PC players with Patch 15, which also introduced a slew of UI improvements to the game.

As a map, Sanhok has plenty to offer PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds players. It has lots of new spaces and geographical features for players to familiarize themselves with. The new weapon introduced in Patch 15, the QBZ95 assault rifle, replaces the SCAR-L in the map's spawn pool, giving players a better chance of finding one and trying it out for themselves.

Most importantly though, Sanhok is only 4x4km, or 25 percent the size of the game's other two maps. This means that the game's normal intensity will likely be dialed up a bit – something that's emphasized in the map's most recent trailer.

In order to further encourage the faster-paced gameplay the map is designed to provide, Sanhok does not feature skill-based matchmaking. What's more, playing on Sanhok has no impact on one's MMR, meaning that players can go all out and try every crazy thing they can think of without fear of doing damage to their hard-won stats. PUBG Corp has stated that it wants Sanhok to provide players with different kind of experience, and it looks like it's given fans the tools they need in order to properly enjoy it that way.

Sanhok is the first of two new maps set to release for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in 2018. The next map is currently slated for launch sometime this winter, and it will offer players some sort of snowy biome to duke it out in. As with the new tropical gear introduced with Sanhok, it's likely that this as-yet-unnamed winter map will come with its own set of clothing and other cosmetics.

Despite losing ground to the likes of Fortnite, PlayerUnkown's Battlegrounds is still going strong in its own right. If PUBG Corp. continues working hard to provide its consumers with new experiences, there's every reason to expect that it will be able to keep the game alive and exciting for several years to come.

PlayerUnkown's Battlegrounds is currently available on PC, and Xbox One, as well as Android and iOS devices.
