Releasing just a week ago, the cat-focused adventure game Stray is leaving its metaphorical paw prints on the industry. In fact, BlueTweak Studios' release is currently the highest user rated game on Steam, ahead of such popular titles as God of War and PowerWash Simulator. And of course, the PC community has been making its presence known by offering up a selection of neat mods, including this one which takes the famous feline and inserts it into one of gaming's most ionic shooters.

As spotted by PCGamesN, user edy pagaza has uploaded a video to YouTube which shows the cat protagonist from Stray shooting demons in Doom. The short clip features the furry creature running through some of the areas from the classic id Software game with the droid B-12 floating above them and firing plasma ammo at the FPS' many enemies. At the moment, there isn't anything available for fans to download and try out for themselves, but the uploader has said that a mod will be coming on July 27.

It's perhaps not too surprising that someone has taken the iconic 90s shooter and inserted one of the most currently popular video game characters. Given that it's now possible to play Doom within Doom itself, the idea of swapping out the Doomslayer for the cat from Stray may seem like small fries by comparison, but it's always interesting to see what ideas the modding community can come up with. The fact that this is being shown off just a week after Stray released is pretty impressive as well.

Of course, there are also custom add-ons for Stray that are already coming to the fore. As well as being able to play as Garfield, one person has modded Stray to include their real life cat in the game. There is evidently something about controlling a feline through a digital world that has really piqued the interest of a lot of gamers. It's an idea that is seldom explored, so if nothing else, it's definitely something different. It also helps that many people are ardent cat lovers in general, so arguably a game like this was always going to go down well.

Given that the original Doom is one of the most influential FPS games of all time and has been around for nearly three decades, there have been so many mods released over the years that have changed up the formula and visuals. What edy pagaza is offering will no doubt be something that will intrigue players, especially those that have always wanted to know what it would be like to be a cat shooting at demons in hell.

Stray is out now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
