Platinum Games have been responsible for some incredible games which range from Bayonetta to The Wonderful 101 and the company has released its titles on numerous consoles. There has been a buzz around the Platinum Games as it unveils plans for 2020, but it appears the company is not overly convinced by the consoles that will be released this year. Some fans of the studio were surprised when the executive director and producer at Platinum Games, Atsushi Inaba, expressed his lack of excitement for the upcoming next-generation titles and in a recent interview the producer explained his feelings about the next generation of consoles further.

While many players have been interested in the specifications of the next generation of consoles, it initially seemed that Inaba was unimpressed with what the consoles were offering. The producer is now addressing his statement in more detail after receiving "a little bit of a backlash online" and it seems that the Inaba is using his own lengthy experience in the gaming industry to contextualize his comments.

Atsushi Inaba stated that "I’m happy that we’re able to do more with each console" but continued to highlight why he was not personally moved by the offerings of either the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. Inaba continued, "But the comparison than I’m making is that… if you think back to the generation between Super Nintendo and PlayStation, and how we went from pixel art to 3D polygons… nobody could have ever imagined that a few years prior." Many veterans of the gaming industry may agree with Inaba as, despite significant changes to features like the PlayStation 5 controller, the graphic updates for the next generation are not quite as dramatic as the ones the producer remembers.

Despite the impressive video reveal of the Unreal Engine 5 on the PlayStation 5, the producer seems unmoved. It is worth noting his stance does seem personal, with Inaba claiming that the new consoles don't give him the same feeling of the old ones. Inaba described the reception of older consoles, "people were just blown away: they weren’t ready for it, they weren’t anticipating it… it was just so new" and with this in mind, it is perhaps understandable that he does not want to prematurely praise the next generation.

Platinum Games seem to have plenty of upcoming titles, and although the executive director and producer in the company may not seem too invested in the next generation, the company is working on products for them. With this in mind, many players will not mind the slightly nostalgic views of Inaba as long as Platinum Games delivers more quality games in the next generation.
