Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch. The title was one of many announced for the hybrid console as part of February 17's Nintendo Direct.

With roots as an early smart phone gaming phenomenon, PopCap Games' endearingly unique tower defense franchise Plants vs. Zombies has been capturing the hearts and minds of gamers for well over a decade. Bought by EA in 2011, the Plants vs. Zombies IP has grown from a humble, single app into a multi-genre, multi-platform powerhouse. The first game of the series to be on any Nintendo platform, the news confirms the recent rumors that Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is coming to Switch.

Although the third-person shooter title was surprise-launched well over a year ago for Xbox and PlayStation, the incoming Switch version of the game appears to have more to it, titled Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville Complete Edition. The "complete" version of the game comes with all post-launch cosmetics, characters, and prizes, attainable through normal gameplay.

The family-friendly shooter is an ideal match for the Switch, with Nintendo's offerings and general reputation being perceived as "family-friendly" in general. Along with the fact that it's the first time the PvZ franchise has opened itself up to the Nintendo audience, the game should perform exceedingly well.

Despite fans' dashed hopes of news of Mario Kart 9 and Breath of the Wild 2 at the Nintendo Direct, many unexpected games like Battle for Neighborville should still have Nintendo fans excited. 2021 is certainly a great time to own a Switch.
