The average playthrough of A Plague Tale: Requiem will take gamers around 15-18 hours, according to Lead Level Designer Kevin Pinson. A Plague Tale: Requiem is the sequel to 2019's A Plague Tale: Innocence, a game that tells the story of Amicia, a young girl hoping to protect her brother in an alternate history of medieval France. A Plague Tale: Requiem has gone gold and has an October 18 release date, and more details are being revealed about the game, including its story and gameplay.

Regarding the story of A Plague Tale: Requiem, it seems from the trailers revealed so far that Amicia and her brother Hugo won't be having an easier time than when they last had to evade hordes of rats. Stealth will again take precedence as there are also human enemies to contend with. However, something that plays into both the narrative and gameplay of A Plague Tale: Requiem are Amicia's new combat abilities, which will see her character seemingly take a darker turn. With plenty of narrative threads set up through the plague, Hugo's abilities, and Amicia's character arc, many fans are wondering how long the experience of A Plague Tale: Requiem will last.

Now, Lead Level Designer Kevin Pinson has confirmed that the average playthrough of A Plague Tale: Requiem should take around 15-18 hours. This marks an increase in playtime from A Plague Tale: Innocence, which only took around 10 hours to complete. Speaking on the subject of the increased runtime of the sequel, Pinson said that there was no pressure to make the game longer. Rather, it was "about pacing," ensuring that the runtime fit the story that Asobo Studio wanted to tell.

Pinson also remarked that there won't be any "filler" in A Plague Tale: Requiem, meaning that players will only be getting story content in the 15-18 hours it takes to complete the game. Even without any open-world exploration or major side quests for the player to complete, there will be plenty of new gameplay options in A Plague Tale: Requiem that could get players to come back for a second run. As stated, Amicia will have a lot more options in the second game when it comes to taking down foes.

While A Plague Tale: Requiem's story might not run as long as that of Starfield or Elden Ring, it seems many are still excited to pick up Amicia and Hugo's story. And the fact that Asobo has been able to work on the narrative without pressure to increase or decrease its runtime suggests that it has been crafted without any outside input or influence. A Plague Tale: Requiem is one of nine games already announced to be coming to Xbox Game Pass this October, making the month a busy one for subscribers.

A Plague Tale: Requiem will release on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S on October 18, 2022.
