Right before the launch of A Plague Tale: Requiem, the developers state that this game will mark the end of the series. Asobo Studio's first game, A Plague Tale: Innocence, was a sleeper hit that caught on with fans for its harrowing environmental design, the dark atmosphere, as well as the sibling dynamic between Hugo and Amicia De Rune that was integral to its narrative. The sequel will be following up on some of the last game's plot threads, including the supernatural rat powers that Hugo himself possesses.

With A Plague Tale: Requiem's imminent launch, fans are likely wondering if this game will get another follow-up or this will be the end. In a recent interview with PlayStation blog, game director Kevin Choteau answered many of the burning questions that fans might have had. This includes details about how the game has evolved in terms of its AI, rat behavior, as well as the story and its characters. He also noted this possibly could be the end of the series as well.

Without going into any spoilers about A Plague Tale: Requiem, Choteau states that he thinks that "for now" the series ends here. He notes, however, that he and the development team are looking at the reception the game gets first before making a decision. Choteau notes that the players ultimately drive the production of the game, and if they didn't like what this entry did, then they need to "do something else."

Choteau notes however that while the team is watching for the reviews of A Plague Tale: Requiem, he'll be celebrating by throwing a big party at the studio. He stated that the team had taken the criticisms and feedback from the previous game into consideration during the game's three-year development cycle, polishing it into what Requiem is now. Choteau exclaims that he was super excited and proud of the small development team, wishing that the player enjoys what the sequel provides and gives them what they wanted.

So far, reviews for the game have been mostly positive according to early reviews that have been posted. GameRant's own review of A Plague Tale: Requiem is similarly glowing, with praise for the graphics, set-pieces, and the engrossing narrative that continues from the past game. The game aims to be way more ambitious than its predecessor, in both gameplay and story. If this is the conclusion to the series, then it seems like it will go out on a high-note instead of a tiny squeak.

A Plague Tale: Requiem launches on October 18 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
