A Plague Tale: Requiem has managed to bring in over a million players in the week following its release on October 18. Picking up six months after its predecessor A Plague Tale: Innocence, A Plague Tale: Requiem continues the story of Amicia and Hugo as they seek to survive in an alternate version of medieval France where a plague has resulted in millions of rats swarming the land. Since its recent release, A Plague Tale: Requiem has received plenty of praise from critics and fans alike.

While still following the groundwork set by A Plague Tale: Innocence, its sequel builds on plenty of things from the original game. There's a new narrative, which sees Hugo's rat powers grow and Amicia's personality take a darker turn in order to protect her brother, but there are also improved combat mechanics in A Plague Tale: Requiem and other new gameplay features. There are plenty of reasons that fans have been enjoying the recent game from Asobo Studio, and it seems that the sequel's popularity has outshone its predecessor almost immediately in many ways.

It was recently announced on Focus Entertainment's Twitter account that A Plague Tale: Requiem had surpassed one million players since launch. This is an impressive feat, considering the first game managed to sell over one million units a year after it dropped. However, one million players does not equal one million copies sold, as A Plague Tale: Requiem was made available on Xbox Game Pass at launch, meaning that subscribers didn't need to purchase their own version to play.

The game is available on PlayStation and Switch as well, so it is likely that this figure of one million players does include a lot of sales, but Focus Entertainment hasn't revealed those figures at the time of writing. As one of the more highly anticipated games of October 2022 and the sequel to a well-received title, it was highly likely that A Plague Tale: Requiem was going to be a popular release. Despite this, it seems Asobo may not capitalize on it for some time, as it announced that A Plague Tale: Requiem was the last entry in the series for now.

There were some who were doubtful that the game would reach this level of popularity, following a short burst of controversy around A Plague Tale: Requiem's release. The issue for many fans revolved around performance and how the game only ran at 30 FPS maximum on console. However, it seems that despite these concerns, plenty of gamers are still interested to see where Amicia and Hugo's Plague Tale story will go next.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is available on October 18 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
