Pikmin Bloom is the latest augmented reality mobile game from Niantic, the developers behind the highly successful Pokemon Go AR game. Although the game was just recently released worldwide, Pikmin Bloom has had a beta in Australia since earlier this year. In celebration of the game’s release, one beta tester has decided to put together a comprehensive guide for beginners that also shared some of their funny experiences.

To those unfamiliar, Pikmin Bloom is an augmented reality game that sees the player control a group of little plant-like creatures called Pikmin. Pikmin grow from seeds that players can find on their daily walks. After enough walking, they’ll grow and then follow the player, gathering fruits which they can eat to bloom and produce flowers that players can then plant where they have walked.

Another task that can be completed in Pikmin Bloom is expeditions. Expeditions essentially have players send their Pikmin on trips to pick up any items that they might have passed on one of their walks. One user on Reddit by the name of Tatebeatz shares how after sending one of their Pikmin on an expedition, that Pikmin then took about 40 real days to get back home. Tatebeatz flew to a different state, sent a Pikmin on an expedition, and then flew back home so the Pikmin essentially had to walk the entire distance back.

The idea of this Pikmin traveling across different states to come back home is quite humorous, and only something that would have been noticed by a beta tester as the game has only been out for a few days. Depending on how much a player can walk, they can control many different Pikmin so having one take a long time to get back from an expedition isn’t so bad in the end.

Unlike Pokemon GO that eventually had a sort of competitive nature to it, Pikmin Bloom is rather relaxing. It’s a nice game that encourages players to take daily walks in order to not just exercise but also fill the map with flowers that they get from their Pikmin.

It’s not just as simple as walking to plant flowers either. There are many things players should know about Pikmin Bloom such as how to acquire coins that they can use to cut down on wait times. As Pikmin Bloom has just recently been released, it’s more than likely that it will also receive future updates that expand on the game depending on how well it does.

Pikmin Bloom is available now for Android and iOS.
