Nintendo has just revealed that Pikmin 3 is coming to the Nintendo Switch this fall. The new version of the game, called Pikmin 3 Deluxe, will launch with added content as well as all previously released DLC.

Announced on Twitter, Pikmin 3 Deluxe will launch on October 30 of this year retailing for $59.99. The much rumored re-release of Pikmin 3 is one of many Wii U games given the deluxe treatment following in the footsteps of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken Tournament, and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe will allow players to play through the original story from beginning to end in co-op. In addition, Nintendo has added lock-on targeting and multiple difficulty modes, including an option to play at a relaxed pace for beginners of the franchise. New content involves new side story missions that will focus on Olimar and Louie on planet PNF-404 and a head-to-head multiplayer mode in Bingo Battle.

Originally released in 2013, Pikmin 3 received multiple DLCs focusing on map packs. Each map pack contained new areas to explore and missions involving defeating enemies and collecting treasures. All the added content of the original game will also be included in Pikmin 3 Deluxe at no additional cost.

The announcement is part of a refocused strategy for Nintendo with this year's game releases due to the impact of COVID-19. With the work-from-home mandate taking effect, the usual plans of a Nintendo Direct and hands-on previews at industry events had to change with a focus on smaller, individual announcements. COVID-19 has also impacted development on first party games which Nintendo announced may delay future announcements as well.

Nintendo has opted for Direct-minis and Twitter announcements thus far including with videos updating on some third party releases last month. Paper Mario: The Origami King, was announced this past May and released only a few months later in July and Pikmin 3 Deluxe will follow suit. No other release dates have been announced as of yet for many of Nintendo's other first party games in development.

COVID-19 has had a huge impact on the games industry as a whole with events being re-planned or canceled outright. Many publishers have resorted to releasing updates of games on developer-focused videos. In a similar manner, plans for Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Orlando were also recently put on hold with the 2023 opening being delayed indefinitely.
