Earlier today, Nintendo revealed numerous additional details regarding the release of Pikmin 3 Deluxe. When the game was initially announced, it lacked any substantial concrete information in terms of what exactly would set Pikmin 3 Deluxe apart from the original version released for the Wii U back in 2017. Now, during the Nintendo Treehouse event, it was revealed that Pikmin 3 Deluxe would see two fan favorite characters featured in the game.

As previously mentioned, Pikmin 3 first released on the Wii U back in the summer of 2013, but Pikmin as a franchise has existed for much longer than that. The very first Pikmin game released on the GameCube back in 2001 and its sequel Pikmin 2 was released in 2004.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe was announced back in early August of 2020, however the original version of Pikmin 3 mysteriously disappeared then reappeared on the Wii U e-shop. The deluxe version received copious amounts of details during the Nintendo Treehouse event, including side content that will feature Olimar and Louie, the original protagonists featured in the first and second games respectively.

The side stories involving Captain Olimar and Louie take place before the events in Pikmin 3. In terms of why Olimar and Louie are on the planet in the first place, the presenter explained that the company Olimar works for is once again in debt. Thus, the company sends Olimar and Louie to the planet featured in Pikmin 3 prior to the arrival of Alph, Brittany, and Charlie. Right now, it has not been confirmed that this side content will be featured in the demo version of Pikmin 3 releasing later this evening.

It will be interesting to see what other features will be included in this version of Pikmin 3. It's nice that this game will be featured on the Nintendo Switch given the exclusivity of the Wii U version. Although, it unfortunately appears that much like the Wii U version, Pikmin 3 Deluxe won't feature online multiplayer. While this may be disappointing to some fans, at the very least, local multiplayer is still an option.

In any case, this port will allow plenty of people to experience this game for the first time and for many people, this game will likely be their first exposure to the Pikmin franchise. However, for some fans, it's rather unfortunate that instead of getting Pikmin 4, Nintendo is just simply porting Pikmin 3 to the Switch. A fourth installment still could be possible, but ultimately, fans of the series will just have to wait and see.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe is set to release on October 30th, 2020.
