Pokemon clothing and accessories have come in vogue over the last few years. Spurred on by the continuous growth of the franchise like Pokemon Sword and Shield's giant sales and Pokemon GO's relevance, more clothing options are becoming available. The newfound popularity of Pokemon garbs also means some pretty ludicrous pricing.

The most recent example of a costly item for the discerning Pokemon fan comes in the form of a cute Pikachu hat. For "PokeManiacs" wanting to have a Pikachu atop their head with ears attached, they will have to shell out quite a bit. This adorable Pikachu hat costs 55,000 yen which translates to over a whopping $500.

Unfortunately, those smitten with idea of having a stylish hat of the franchise mascot are out of luck. Despite the high price, the accessory is completely sold out. Those who were able to grab it are treated to a polyester and wool Pikachu cap. One of the cuter details is actually hidden in the lining. Turning the hat over, you can find a slew of first generation Pokemon, including Pikachu itself.

The Pikachu hat was part of a collaboration between the Pokemon Company and Japanese clothing brand CA4LA. The item was available exclusively though the CA4LA website but it was not the only way to don "Poke-gear." Last year, The Pokemon Company took its first step into higher fashion with the Pokemon crossover with Adidas, the immensely popular active fashion and sportswear brand. The first item announced in the partnership was a pair of stylish Pikachu Sneakers. The collaboration has continued throughout the months with the company recently announcing new Pikachu themed slides.

The new wave of Pokemon accessories is not surprising given the series' current cachet in popular culture. As the world still struggles with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many players pondered how the popular mobile game Pokemon GO would adapt. Despite many players under strict lockdown, Pokemon GO has had a fantastic year according to developer Niantic.

The Pokemon brand is also preparing for a big July. In two weeks, the annual Pokemon GO Fest will be held online and players are excited. The event even had a Pokemon GO trailer directed by Rian Johnson, best known for directing Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Johnson noted that he is a big Pokemon GO player and that the game has been a great means of social contact.

Considering Johnson's success and love for the franchise, maybe he was able to get one of these exclusive Pikachu hats.

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
