Phasmophobia came screaming out the gate back in September 2020, and quickly became one of the biggest indie horror games of that year, finding a comfortable home among the streaming community, in particular. As one of the best co-op horror games to play with friends, its appeal comes largely down to the fact that it has something of a different premise, and can be enjoyed by others, or even endured solo for those brave enough. As a result, the studio behind it, Kinetic Games, is keen to keep the game ticking over with new content, and now something else appears to be arriving.

In a recent tweet by the developer's lead artist, it seems that Phasmophobia will be having what are described as tarot cards added in a future update. The tweet by user cjdxn doesn't go into details about the "mysterious cards," but does suggest that some are missing and ponders what they could possibly do. One commenter suggests they could be modifiers, perhaps not too dissimilar to the card system in Back 4 Blood, which can affect the gameplay either negatively or positively. This is just speculation at this point, however.

Fans in the comments are notably excited about this new addition to Phasmophobia, but it's not quite clear which update they'll be bundled with, or when the cards will be rolled out. As of now, there is very little to go on outside of the tweet and the posted image of the tarot cards. The black and white picture shows things like a Death card and a Moon card. It's all a bit of a mystery, but it's likely that more details will follow soon, hopefully.

As many will remember, it was announced that Phasmophobia will probably be getting a Christmas update, with some additional content inbound, such as a summoning circle, a tortured voodoo doll, and maybe some more questions for the Ouija board. There may be even be new ghosts being added too. This being the case, it would make sense for the tarot cards to get added with this next big update, which, given that it's supposedly holiday-related, could be coming any time soon.

As one of the highest rated titles on Steam, Kinetic's ghost-hunting game has become something of a phenomenon, especially among Twitch broadcasters. It's hard to say how long the game will continue to be as popular as it currently is, but the prospect of a new update, and the addition of some tarot cards, suggests the studio is not done with this game by a long shot.

Phasmophobia is currently available on Steam.
