Regardless of if one is an avid PC player or not, chances are they've heard of Phasmophobia, the co-op horror game created by one single developer. The indie game tasks players with teaming up to investigate a series of haunted houses, with the spirits lurking in each residence searching them out and trying to kill them.

While the game has already accomplished a crazy milestone recently, becoming one of the top five most played releases on Steam earlier this month, it has just achieved something equally as mind-blowing. Reported by ResetEra user AshenOne in their weekly Steam sales report, it turns out Phasmophobia has held on to the number one seller spot for two weeks running.

To put that into perspective, the game has outsold huge titles such as the recently released Baldur's Gate 3, The Outer Worlds, which just launched on Steam, and the viral sensation that is Among Us. Phasmophobia even beat out pre-orders for Cyberpunk 2077, which has been a dominant force on the rankings for quite some time. Considering the game was worked on by just one person, that's undeniably a huge feat, not only for Kinetic Games but also for the indie scene in general. With Fall Guys, Among Us, and now Phasmophobia managing to stake a massive claim in the multiplayer world despite operating with tiny dev teams, hopefully other small studios will get the opportunity to do the same.

Phasmophobia Truck

As for Phasmophobiait'll be interesting to see where Kinetic Games goes now it's achieved such viral and financial success. The one-man team has amassed a strong fanbase who seem eager to see the game transform into a much bigger project over time. Seeing Phasmophobia's initial success, there's undeniably a good base to work off. Whether it's adding more ghost types, different buildings to explore, or just some much-needed bug fixes, it seems the future is bright for Phasmophobia.

For those who haven't caught the emergence of the viral game, Phasmophobia has become a huge part of several streamers and YouTubers recent content, with PewDiePie, Markiplier, JackSepticEye, and more all jumping on the horror gem. While investigating haunted houses isn't exactly a new idea for video games, Phasmophobia's focus on players teaming up, wielding ghost-hunting equipment, and having to communicate through proximity-based walkie talkies has made it a stand out for the genre. With the time of year welcoming all things spooky, there's no denying that Kinetic Games has produced an absolute hit at the exact moment when fans wanted it the most.
