Ever since the new Phasmophobia Halloween "nightmare" update went live yesterday, many horror gamers and streamers have been checking out the new content. With the Phasmo patch adding a new map and four additional ghosts, as well as a series of other changes, it has certainly been a considerable update worthy of this spooky season. However, it's not always about the scares, as a streamer on Twitch recently noticed something in one of the game's maps that made him and his community quite emotional.

In a clip taken from DreamWarrior's most recent stream, the user was busy checking out the new changes in Kinetic Games' ghost hunting title Phasmophobia when something caught his attention. In the hallway of one of the game's current maps, he spotted a framed picture of a lizard, which he instantly recognized. Within seconds, DreamWarrior became overwhelmed with emotion, while people in the chat, who also knew what the image was referring to, left kind words.

Anyone new to the channel or checking out the 60-second clip without context may be unaware as to what had made him and his community so emotional. According to a recent Reddit post, the lizard in the picture is called Lee, and was a beloved pet of the streamer who sadly passed away last year. The thread goes on to say that the Phasmophobia studio reached out to content creators to ask for pictures that they could insert into the game for a proposed update. It seems in this instance, Kinetic Games placed Lee in the game, most likely as a tribute.

Considering that the indie ghost hunting horror game is known for its scares, this is something of a touching departure from the game's normal terror. DreamWarrior's reaction is one that is hard to not feel effected by. It's unclear whether he knew the image was being put into the next update or not. In either case, it's obvious that he was at least not aware of which part of the game Lee would be inserted into, as his reaction shows.

Given the huge popularity of the game, which is likely to increase during the Halloween period, it's hardly surprising that Phasmophobia has become one of Steam's most top-rated games. As well as the game being hugely successful, it is something of a testament to the studio that it would be willing to put in such an emotional tribute to the streamer's late pet. Sometimes it's not always about terrifying players.

Phasmophobia is available now on PC through Steam.
