Phasmophobia fans have been anxiously awaiting news regarding Kinetic Games' plans for its next update. The four-player co-op horror game's most recent update came around a month ago, adding a single-player mode and overhauling the journal system. The next update is particularly important, however. That's because it's Halloween, and Phasmophobia players are anxious for Kinetic to offer them up new frights and fears. It seems Kinetic has the same idea in mind, as it's now teasing something special ahead of October's spooky holiday.

The teaser is just that, but despite its brevity, it's certain to be very exciting for Phasmophobia fans. The teaser was shared via Twitter and includes a brief message from Kinetic along with an image. The message says that Kinetic has been quiet lately, but that it has some "exciting news." The image then features a new Phasmophobia environment featuring a tent of sorts. Text on the image dubs the update as "Nightmare" with a release date of October 25 at 4:00 PM BST.

There are two clear takeaways from the teaser. The first is, obviously, that Kinetic is planning to release a new update for Phasmophobia ahead of Halloween. The October 25 update, Nightmare, remains a complete mystery for the moment. Regardless, just the acknowledgment of an update from Kinetic should be enough to get Phasmophobia fans very excited. It may be small, or have limited new content, or it could be something surprising in nature, but Phasmophobia fans will take whatever Kinetic has put together.

Second is the teaser image itself, which is already brewing a healthy amount of speculation. The image shows a tent in the woods, along with some posts holding a string of lights. The most obvious assumption is that the Nightmare update will feature a new map set in a campground. If there's another possibility regarding what the tent is about, it isn't clear.

While it's unrelated to the teaser, there is a clue as to what will be included in the new update that was discovered in September. Kinetic updated its Trello board with plans to add a Nightmare Difficulty option to the game. This was listed under its planned "Halloween Update" task, which ties into the Nightmare name nicely.

One big question left to answer is whether or not the Nightmare update will be Halloween-related or if it'll just be generally spooky. A new campground map, as well as a Nightmare Difficulty option would still be a substantial update for Phasmophobia, of course. It'll be fun to see if Kinetic has any other surprises in store.

Phasmophobia is available now on PC in Early Access.
