Since releasing in September 2020, Phasmophobia has enjoyed a lot of success, becoming one of Steam's highest-rated games at the time, as well as influencing subsequent titles. And all this while it's still in early access. With the likes of Ghost Exile and Ghost Watchers following in its footsteps, Kinetic's paranormal co-op release has had a major impact on the indie horror scene. Of course, it's by no means perfect, and some fans have been discussing one thing that they aren't happy about it.

As reported by PCGamesN, fans over on Reddit have been giving their insight into some Phasmophobia maps they'd like to see in a potential future update. Along with a poll which suggests such locations as a movie theater, a corporate building, or a circus, some people have been voicing their disappointment over the game's large maps. One critique said that the bigger levels, such as the prison or asylum, make it very difficult to locate the room the ghost is haunting. As a result, some fans feel that there's not a lot of fun to be had in these locations, with one user simply saying that big maps are "boring."

This could be in response to the recent Phasmophobia update which added a new difficulty and changed up the asylum level. Asylum was rejigged by the developer, becoming the Sunny Meadows map. However, it's still a huge map, according to the game's Wiki page. Containing 70 rooms, which is slightly less than the original level which had 78, it's still considered the largest location across the whole game. Some in the Reddit thread have expressed a bit of criticism over the maps that have been suggested, saying that some of these could theoretically be just as big as the asylum, unless sections of them were cordoned off.

Of course, it's the spooks that are the key aspect of the game. Phasmophobia had three new ghosts added back in June, the Deogen, Moroi, and Thaye. In the patch notes, details about these entities were intentionally scarce, tasking players with the challenge of discovering their habits.

However, ghosts don't mean much if players can't find them as they wander around massive levels, getting lost. It may be one of the best multiplayer horror games around, but it seems as though fans would like some additional, smaller maps. After all, the last one to be added was last Halloween's Maple Lodge Campsite, which is not as big as the asylum or prison, but pretty sizable when compared to the house maps.
